Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

The Chainkeeper is a Fighter archetype in which chains are a large staple both in and out of combat. Chains can be used to grapple from a distance, or to deal damage. They can be used to keep a safe distance from foes, and even support allies.

Chain, 30GP, 1d8 bludgeoning, 10lbs, Special, Reach, Two-Handed

Special: When you hit with this weapon, instead of doing damage you may use a bonus action to Grapple the target. On each of its turns, the target must succeed on a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check contested by your Strength (Athletics) check as an action to get out of your grapple.  Creatures more than one size larger than you have advantage on the saving throw.

If the target is grappled by the chain, you may take the Attack action to deal 1d8 Bludgeoning damage to the target. You still roll to hit.

When you move, you can drag or carry the grappled creature with you, but your speed is halved, unless the creature is two or more sizes smaller than you.

You can grapple other objects as long as they are reasonably able to be grappled. To hit, roll to hit with advantage.

Chain Linking

Normally, creatures 2 or more sizes larger than you can’t be grappled by you. Instead, at level 3, creatures 3 or more sizes larger than you can’t be grappled by you. This effect only applies when you are using your chain to grapple.

Additionally, you have advantage on attack rolls against targets you have grappled by your chain.

Magic Infused

Beginning at 7th level, your damage with your chain counts as magical to overcome resistances. Additionally, you can re roll natural 1’s on attack rolls once per turn.

Chain Sniper

At 10th level, you may choose to aim for another creatures weapon instead of a creature. Make an attack roll with disadvantage. If you succeed, that weapon becomes grappled by the chain and can’t be used to attack. A creature can make a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check contested by your Strength (Athletics) check as an action to release the weapon.

Extra L∞ps

At level 15, your chain restrains creatures instead of grappling them. They can still make grapple checks to free themselves from the restraint.

Precise Chain

Starting at 18th level, once per short rest you can remove any disadvantage when attacking with your Chain.
