Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

This is a rework of the Runeknight as a Barbarian subclass with draconic flavor.

You discovered how to enhance your martial prowess using the supernatural power of dragon scales. In time, you learned how to graft and apply scales to your skin and how to invoke their magic, ultimately becoming a Scale Grafter.

Bonus proficiencies

At 3rd level, you can speak, read, and write Draconic or another language of your choice. Additionally, whenever you make a Charisma check when interacting with dragons, your proficiency bonus is doubled if it applies to the check.

Draconic Might

You can imbue yourself with the might of dragons. At 3rd level, when you enter a rage, you gain the following benefits:

  • If you are smaller than Large, you become Large. Anything you are wearing can either grow along with it or be morphed into your draconic body. If you lack the room to become Large, your size doesn’t change.
  • You can use your tails, claws or jaws to lash out at enemies. Your unarmed strikes deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier damage and can be slashing or piercing damage instead of the bludgeoning damage.
  • You can choose to change your flat rage bonus for 1d6 extra damage.

Scale Magic

At 3rd level, you learn how to graft scales onto your skin. When you gain this feature, you learn how to graft two scales of your choice (see “Scale Options”). You can invoke a scale without removing it, but you can only invoke each scale once before you finish a short or a long rest. Each time you gain a level in this class, you can replace one scale with a different one. You get another scale at 6th, 10th and 14th level. If a scale requires a saving throw, your Scale Magic save DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier.

Aeros (Gold/Red Scale)

You have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks and on saving throws against being frightened or ending the condition on yourself.

In addition, you can invoke the scale as a bonus action to increase your Strength score by 2 for 10 minutes. This increase can cause your score to exceed 20, but not 30.

Daurgo (Shadow/Undead Scale)

Prerequisite: 10th level

You have advantage on Intelligence (Arcana) checks, and you gain darkvision out to a range of 120 feet.

In addition, you can invoke the scale as a bonus action to enter a shadow-like state for 1 minute or until you’re incapacitated. While you are in dim light or darkness you gain resistance to all damage except force, psychic, radiant or thunder.

Marux (Blue/Bronze Scale)

Prerequisite: 6th level

You have advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks, and you cannot be surprised as long as you are not incapacitated.

In addition, you can invoke the rune as a bonus action to enter a commanders state for 1 minute or until you’re incapacitated. Until the state ends, when you or another creature you can see within 60 feet of you makes an attack roll, a saving throw, or an ability check, you can use your reaction to cause the roll to have advantage or disadvantage.

Turac (Silver/White Scale)

You gain advantage in Wisdom(Survival) and on Constitution Saving throws to avoid effects based on temperature and weather.

In addition, when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can invoke the scale to case them in binding ice: the target must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be restrained for 1 minute. While restrained by the ice, the target takes 2d6 cold damage at the start of each of its turns. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, breaking the ice on a success.

Uxin (Green/Steel Scale)

You have advantage on Charisma(Deception) checks and on saving throws against being poisoned or ending that condition on yourself.

In addition, when you or a creature you can see within 30 feet of you is hit by an attack roll, you can use your reaction to invoke the scale and choose a different creature within 30 feet of you, other than the attacker. The chosen creature becomes the target of the attack, using the same roll. This magic can transfer the attack’s effects regardless of the attack’s range.

Wyr (Black/Copper Scale)

You have advantage on Intelligence(History) checks, and you have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or on ending that condition on yourself.

In addition, when a creature you can see ends its turn within 30 feet of you, you can use your reaction to invoke the scale and force the creature to make a Wisdom saving throw. Unless the save succeeds, the creature is charmed by you for 1 minute. While charmed in this way, the creature has a speed of 0 and is incapacitated, descending into a dreamy stupor. The creature repeats the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.

Elemental Infusion

At 6th level, the magic of your scales infuses you with elemental power. When you enter your Draconic Might choose one of the following damage types acid, cold, fire, lightning, necrotic or poison damage. You gain resistance to that type while raging and can use this damage type for your (extra damage replacing) rage bonus.

Additionally, you learn another scale from your Scale Magic feature (for a total of three)

Wings Unfurled

At 10th level, you can temporarily use draconic wings for short flights. While raging, you can use a bonus action to give yourself a flying speed equal to your walking speed until the end of your turn. You fall if you end your turn in the air and nothing else is holding you aloft. The unarmed strike (which can now include wings as well) damage and extra damage replacing your rage bonus from your Draconic Might feature increases to 1d8.

In addition, you learn one new scale of your choice from your Scale Magic feature (for a total of four).

Draconic Assimilation

At 14th level, your draconic form grows even more powerful, now resembling an adult dragon. When you use your Draconic Might feature, you gain the following benefits:

  • Imposing stature. Your size can increase to Huge, and while you are that size, your reach increases by 5 feet.
  • Devastating blows. The damage die for your unarmed strikes and replacing your rage bonus increase to 1d10.
  • Powerful wings. When you use your Wings Unfurled feature you can hover and don't fall at the end of your turn. On subsequent, turns you cannot use a flying speed, except for gliding down safely (vertical only), unless you use this feature again.

In addition, you learn one new scale of your choice from your Scale Magic feature(for a total of five).
