Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

Your patron is a magical entity bound to a book. This book is like no other, and holds the very fabric of the patron. Perhaps only you can open it, or it speaks in sentient tongues.

Expanded Spell List

The Tomebound lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

1st Level: Detect Magic, Detect Poison and Disease

2nd Level: Arcane Lock, Knock

3rd Level: Speak with Plants, Clairvoyance

4th Level: Control Water, Locate Creature

5th Level: Dream, Telekinesis

Great Tome

Starting at 1st level, you possess a powerful, magical book that contains your patron and grants you your eldritch powers.

This book may appear however you please, however, it has some kind of seal on it. Creatures other than you are unable to break this seal by any means other than a 6th-level or higher evocation spell, and therefore cannot open the book. If the seal is broken, it reforms within 1 hour. You can open the book as if it is not sealed, and when a creature tries to open the book, you can allow it to open in the same way. If the book has been left open, other creatures can read it as normal.

Additionally, this book is almost completely indestructible. The only method of destroying this book is to destroy your patron. The book can create more pages if it becomes full, and you are always aware of the book's location no matter where it is. If it is on another plane of existence, you must travel there to discern the exact location.

Other than the changes listed above, the book functions identically to any other.

Ritualistic Tome

Starting at 1st level, you can harness your patron's energy to allow your book to cast it's own rituals.

Your spell book can float through the air at your command, and also flick through it's own pages. In combat, it acts as a separate creature and takes it's turn immediately after yours. Due to it's indestructibility, your book is immune to all conditions, forms of damage, and instant-kill effects such as Power Word: Kill, and if it is forced out of combat in some way, such as being sent to another plane of existence, it can return to it's previous space on it's next turn. See the 'Tomebound' stat block below for the book's stats.

As an action, your book can cast any of your spells. Choose a spell that you know within the parameters in the table shown below. Your book can cast that spell, and uses your Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma and proficiency bonus to do so, but does not benefit from any eldritch invocations or other bonuses. After you do this, your book cannot cast a spell on it's next turn.

Your Warlock Level - Maximum Level of Spells Castable by Book
1-4 - Cantrips only
5-9 - 1st level spells
10-16 - 2nd level spells
17+ - 3rd level spells

Dual Cast

Starting at 6th level, you and your book can cast spells together at improved strength.

When your book is within 10 feet of you and casts a spell, you can use your reaction to cast the same spell at the same target without consuming a spell slot.

Additionally, add an additional damage die to the damage dealt by your book's spell, and increase any spell save DCs of that spell by 5 whilst casting it.

You can only use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all uses on a long rest.

Developed Sentience

Starting at 10th level, your book's senses and perception begin to grow.

Your book gains the following benefits:

  • It gains blindsight for 10 feet, and can mentally sense objects around it and how they are moving.
  • Your Dual Cast feature is accessible by other friendly creatures, as long as they are next to the book and know the spell the book is casting. Only one creature can Dual Cast at a time, however.
  • Your book is able to use it's own reaction to activate Dual Cast. This has the same effect, but the roles of the book and the casting creature are reversed, meaning the creature's spell is empowered instead of the book's.
  • Your book is able to hear people speak, and can react by moving, flicking through it's pages, opening and closing.
  • While you are carrying your book, you have advantage on Perception checks relying on sound.

Ineffable Knowledge

Starting at 14th level, your book contains indeterminable amounts of information and shares that knowledge with you telepathically.

You or a friendly creature can write spells you do not know into the book. This takes 1 hour for each spell transcribed into the book's pages.

Your book is able to cast spells written inside it, even if you do not know them.

Additionally, while holding your book, you can cast any spell written inside as a ritual, though you may only do this once and must then take a long rest to do so again.
