Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks that follow the Way of the Mystic Heart are considered the bridge between Ki and the Arcane Arts. These monks seek to unlock their inner connection to the weave, and use it to supplement their spiritual journey. Monstaries of the Mystic Heart place a large focus on respect for the past, and some even operate as educational institutes, in addition to their spiritual pursuits. Although monks that follow this tradition do not gain their spellcasting directly from scholarly study, they place a great value on knowledge, and their monastaries are known to be places where histories and academic discoveries are meticulously recorded.

Spellcasting

When you reach 3rd level, you gain the ability to cast spells. See Spell Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the wizard spell list.

Cantrips

You learn three cantrips: true strike, and two of your choice from the wizard spell list. You learn an additional wizard cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Mystic Heart Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your wizard spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell chromatic orb and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast chromatic orb using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher

You know three 1st-level wizard spells of your choice, two of which you must choose from the evocation and transmutation spells on the wizard spell list.

The Spells Known column of the Mystic Heart Spellcasting table shows when you learn more wizard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be an evocation or transmutation spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

The spells you learn at 8th, 14th, and 20th level can come from any school of magic.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the wizard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the wizard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must be an evocation or transmutation spell, unless you’re replacing the spell you gained at 3rd, 8th, 14th, or 20th level from any school of magic.

Spellcasting Ability

Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your wizard spells, since you learn your spells through the bridge between your inner eye and the weave. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a wizard spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Arcane Strike

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level you can spend 1 Ki point immediately after you take the Attack action on your turn to cast the true strike cantrip on as a bonus action.

Bridge of Mind and Soul

Beginning at 6th level, you learn to bridge the gap between ki and magic.

Enlightened Casting

You can use your ki points to gain additional spell slots, or sacrifice spell slots to gain additional ki points. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier.

Creating Spell Slots. You can spend unexpended ki points to regain one spell slot as a bonus action on your turn. The Creating Spell Slots table shows the cost of regaining a spell slot of a given level.

Converting a Spell Slot to Ki Points. As a bonus action on your turn, you can expend one spell slot and gain a number of ki points equal to the slot’s level.

Martial Magic

Starting at 11th level, if a ki feature requires you to take the Attack action, you can instead [Tooltip Not Found] and still activate the feature. Other requirements for the ki feature still apply as normal.

Spell Shift

At 17th level, you have learned to redirect certain spells. Whenever yourself or an ally within 5 feet of you is targeted by a spell attack that targets only one creature, you may use your reaction to attempt to redirect it. When you do so, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level. On a success you can choose a new target for the spell. On a failure the spell damages you as if you were the target, regardless of who was originally targeted.

When you target a creature with a spell you have redirected, you may target any creature that is within the spell's range and make a spell attack against it using your spellcasting modifier. You may also choose to redirect the spell harmlessly towards a spot within range.

You may use this feature twice, and regain expended uses on a long rest.
