Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

You have developed attacks specifically designed for a trident, spear or javelin. The character must have the capability to use a shield and the Two-Weapon Fighting fighting style. The shield used in conjunction with the trident (or javelin or spear) is a buckler. The buckler is a small shield worn on the forearm of the off hand which allows the weilder to use bothe hands for attacking with the weapon. The buckler grants +1 to Armor Class rather than +2 from regular shields.

Trip

At 3rd level, as a bonus action or a reaction to a missed attack, you can use the haft of the trident to sweep the defender’s legs. Opponent makes a DEX Save DC 8+STR Modifier + Proficiency Bonus or fall prone. Successful Save and the opponent is unaffected.

Skewer

At 7th level, after a successful attack (before pulling the trident free), as a bonus action, you can use the trident to push your opponent up to 15’ around you, ripping it out at the last minute for a second dealing of standard weapon damage.

Catch and Release

At 10th level, after a successful Skewer melee attack, as a bonus action, you can make an attack with the edge of your buckler for d6+STR modifier bludgeoning (unless the shield is spiked or “edged” on the sides and bottom, then it is piercing) damage. This attack frees the trident from the opponent for an additional d4 slashing damage as it rips free. Standard roll to hit to perform this attack and can be done once per turn.

Pin and Punch

AT 15th level, you can use your trident as a standard attack to pin your opponent’s foot to the ground (doing standard damage) and, as a single bonus action, make two shield attacks for d6+STR modifier bludgeoning (unless the shield is spiked or “edged” on the sides and bottom, then it is piercing) damage. The maneuver is complete when the trident is removed from the foot of the opponent (which deals an additional d4 weapon damage).

Catch of the Day

At 18th level, after a successful trident attack, you can use your second attack action and make a contested STR Check to lift the attacker over your head and slam him to the ground on his back. You can then make a bonus shield attack with advantage for d6+STR modifier bludgeoning (unless the shield is spiked or “edged” on the sides and bottom, then it is piercing) damage. If the contested STR Check is failed, you lose any further attacks for that round.
