Base Class: Barbarian
The soul of another, it could be that of a random angry ghost, an ancient ancestor of yours or even a demon of some sort. No matter the cause, you now live with a second soul within you, and every so often, that rage isn't your own.
Possessed Rage
When you begin a rage, you can choose to make a charisma saving throw against a DC equal to 20 - (your proficiency modifier + your wisdom modifier). On a success, you conduct your rage as normal. On a failure or if you choose to not make a saving throw at all, you lose control of yourself, and are only allowed to charge towards the nearest creature you deem an enemy as you are taken over. You can take no other actions besides the dash or attack actions while in a possessed rage. While in a possessed rage, you can add your charisma modifier to either your attack rolls or your damage rolls (as necrotic damage). You decide at the beginning of a possessed rage where the bonus goes. At the end of each of your turns, you can choose to roll another charisma saving throw or not, turning what is left of a possessed rage into a normal rage Additionally, you weapon attacks count as magical during a possessed rage, you gain darkvision out to a range of 60ft or increase your natural darkvision by 30ft, you are immune to being possessed by any other creature and have advantage on saving throws made against being frightened or charmed.
Two souls, One Body
Also at 6th level, you gain advantage on all wisdom saving throws and wisdom checks while in a possessed rage.
Stubborn Spirit
Beginning at 6th level, whenever you roll a natural 1 on an attack roll or a creature lands a critical hit on you, you must make a charisma saving throw against your possessed rage DC or enter a possessed rage even if you are out of rages or are currently raging normally. Additionally, if your possessed rage would end for any reason other than reaching it's time limit or you falling unconscious, make a charisma saving throw (DC = 8 + your rage damage bonus) on a success the possessed rage ends and becomes either a normal rage or no rage at all, (you decide). On a failure, you take necrotic damage equal to half your barbarian level and continue raging.
Apparitional Strike Sight
Beginning at 10th level, the additional weapon damage die you use in a brutal critical can either do the weapon's damage type or necrotic damage, your choice. Additionally, you gain the ability to see into the ethereal plane to range of 45ft and you can't be surprised by a creature while they are within 45ft of you.
Own Body
Starting at 14th level, while in a possessed rage you gain some semblance of control over your own body, working in tandem with the spirit that plagues you. You are no longer forced to perform only the attack and dash actions. You still must charge at any creature you deem an enemy upon entering a possessed rage, however. Additionally, your ethereal sight extends to 90ft & you can't be surprised by a creature that is within 90ft of you.

Posted Dec 13, 2020Disclaimer: My name is Raphael & I am using D&D beyond to easily catalogue some of the classes I have been homebrewing. Now in all honesty, quite a lot of my homebrew is either directly taken or influenced by pre-existing homebrew. I am just using this space to easily keep track of my homebrew subclasses that I use in my specific world that I’ve created. Most of the homebrew is homebrew I actually made myself, however if you would like to use it or catalogue it for yourself, please feel free to!
