Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

The modern rogue makes use of all the tools at their disposal: portable smart devices connected to a worldwide information network in every pocket surround them, each holding enough of a person's memories and personality to be a functional portion of their very soul - a little magic alongside a little technical knowhow and these are wide open doors.

Spellcasting

When you reach 3rd level, you gain the ability to cast spells. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the wizard spell list.

Cantrips

You learn three cantrips of your choice from the wizard spell list. You learn another wizard cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Hacker Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your wizard spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell charm person and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast charm person using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher

You know three 1st-level wizard spells of your choice.

The Spells Known column of the Hacker Spellcasting table shows when you learn more wizard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the wizard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the wizard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability

Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for your wizard spells, since you learn your spells through technical exploits. You use your Intelligence whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a wizard spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Hijack

Starting at 3rd level, you can use your hacking tools to cast Scrying as a ritual on a technological device such as a smartphone or camera which is connected to a network you can access (the Internet or an internal network you have access to) a number of times per day equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1). If the device is not in use it makes its saving throw without any ability score modifier. Patching into a closed network uses a use of Hijack, and you must be able to touch a device connected to that network.

Scrying on a device this way allows you to use the device's sensors and spy on active processes, tapping into its cameras, microphones and currently ongoing tasks such as phone calls or open files. For example if the device does not have cameras, it cannot be used to see its surroundings.

Assume Control

At 9th level, you are fully connected and the Internet of Things is in your employ.

When you use your Hijack feature on a device, you can use that device as the point of origin of any spells you cast. You can retain a simultaneous connection with a number of devices equal your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1).

You can also expend a use of Hijack for your spells to bypass immunity to conditions inflicted by your spells on constructs, instead making the spell unable to inflict this condition on non-constructs.

Thermal Runaway

Any sufficiently abused technology is indistinguishable from an improvised explosive device.

As an action from 13th level, you can overload a device you have under your Hijack feature, dealing your sneak attack damage to the bearer and half as much to anyone else within 5 feet of the exploding device, which is destroyed in the process. This consumes a usage of your Hijack feature.

Botnet

At 17th level, the Hacker draws power from their network of linked devices.

When you use your Assume Control feature to cast a spell through a Hijacked device, you can sacrifice your connection to that device to cast the spell at a higher level, or cast a 1st level spell without using a spell slot.

You can increase the level of a spell by a level equal to the number of devices sacrificed.
