Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

(Note)This subclass does require a Harrow Deck to use(Note)

Using a deck of cards known as a Harrow deck, you can perform a card reading by laying the cards out in a three-by-three grid that reveals secrets of the target’s past, present, and future. Whether or not the divinations of a general harrowing are set in stone, none can deny that the strange powers wielded by the harrower-blooded are real. The harrower uses the ancient art of fortune-telling to harness destiny and thus augment their spellcasting abilities, infusing them with power by drawing cards from their Harrow deck and letting fate decide what elements of their magic need augmentation.

Invoking the Harrow

Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, a student of the harrow may perform a harrowing for themselves and their allies within 20 ft. This ritual takes 10 minutes, and allies to be affected by it must remain within 20 feet of the caster for its entirety. At its conclusion, count up the number of cards from each suit that were used in the reading. This harrowing provides a bonus based upon the suit with the most cards shown. In case of a tie, choose one suit. The bonus lasts for 24 hours. The suits grant insight bonuses as follows:

  • Strength: +1 to attack rolls

  • Dexterity: +1 to AC

  • Constitution: +1 additional hit die to your hit point maximum

  • Intelligence: +1 on all skill checks

  • Wisdom: +1 on all saving throws

  • Charisma: +1 on spell save DC.

After you use this feature, you must complete a long rest before doing so again.

Harrowed Spellcasting

Also starting at 2nd level, a student of the harrow may, as they begin to cast a spell, draw three cards from their Harrow deck. This adds both a material component (if the spell does not already have one) and a spell focus(the Harrow deck) to the spell. Depending on the students level, the cards they draw might change the parameters of the spell or grant them some other benefit, as described in each tower ability. The harrower can also choose to bestow this effect on another target. They gain all of the different tower abilities available to them. If they draw cards whose tower effects they have not yet unlocked, those cards provide no benefit. Each card the harrow student draws that exactly matches their alignment counts as two cards of that suit. Each drawings effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to the level of the spell in which it was drawn on. The harrow student may use this ability a number of times per day equal to half of their class level.

The Towers of Intelligence, Strength and Charisma

When the student of the harrow invokes their Harrowed spellcasting ability, their own personal abilities get modified in a number of ways, depending on what alignment are the suits you've drawn:

  • Beginning at 2nd level, whenever a student of the harrow uses their Harrowed spellcasting ability, for each card they draw from the suit of intelligence, they or another creature gains a +1 bonus to their spell attack.
  • Beginning at 3rd level, whenever a student of the harrow uses their Harrowed spellcasting ability to augment a spell that deals damage, the spell deals +1 point of damage per die for each card from the suit of strength they draw or they can give this bonus to another target and apply it to their next damaging spell they cast.
  • Beginning at 4th level, whenever a student of the harrow uses their Harrowed spellcasting ability, for each card they draw from the suit of charisma, theirs or another targets spell save DC increases by 1.

Spirit Deck

At 6th level, with an action, a student of the harrow can summon a shimmering, translucent Harrow deck made of force that flies through the air and engulfs a 20ft area within 60 feet in a whirling cloud of knife-edged cards. The student then draws a number of Harrow cards equal to their level from their personal Harrow deck, and the spirit deck deals damage based on the number of drawn cards that match their alignment. Each exact match deals 5 points of force damage, each partial match deals 3 points of force damage and each non-matched card deals 1 point of damage, and each opposite match deals 0 damage.

The harrow student may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 1 + their charisma modifier (minimum 1/day).

The Towers of Constitution, Dexterity & Wisdom

Starting at 7th level, the harrow student learns how to tap into the remaining three towers powers:

  • Beginning at 7th level, whenever a student of the harrow uses their Harrowed spellcasting ability, for each card they draw from the suit of constitution, they or another target can heal 1d6 points of damage.
  • At 8th level, whenever a student of the harrow uses their Harrowed spellcasting ability, for each card they draw from the suit of dexterity, they or another target gains a +1 bonus on dexterity saves and to their AC until the beginning of your next turn.
  • At 9th level, whenever a student of the harrow uses their Harrowed spellcasting ability, for each card she draws from the suit of wisdom, they increase the spell’s effective level by +1 (max of 3).

Reading the Signs

When a 10th-level Student of the Harrow draws cards from any deck of cards in order to either activate a class ability (such as Harrowed spellcasting) or to activate a magic item function, they may draw an extra card and choose one to ignore and shuffle back into the deck. The harrower may not use this ability when performing a harrowing, but may use it when performing her Harrowed spellcasting or spirit deck abilities. They can also use this ability when drawing cards from magical decks, such as a deck of many things or a deck of illusions. They may use this ability at will, but must wait 1d4 rounds between each use.
