Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

The Forest Guardian is very similar to the Beast Master archetype, however, the forest guardian is seen as more magical and protective of the forests. These rangers are often in possession of a fey or plant companion that can be used to increase their spell capabilities.

Companion of the Forest

Choose a fey or plant that is no larger than Medium and that has a challenge rating of 1/4 or lower. Add your proficiency bonus to the creature’s AC, attack rolls, and damage rolls, as well as to any saving throws and skills it is proficient in. Its hit point maximum equals the hit point number in its stat block or four times your ranger level, whichever is higher. Like any creature, it can spend Hit Dice during a short rest to regain hit points.

You also gain Training Points, which you can spend to make your creature take actions as a bonus action on your initiative turn. The creature obeys your commands as best as it can. On your turn, you can verbally command the creature where to move (no action required by you). Once you have the Extra Attack feature, you can make one weapon attack yourself when you command the creature to take the Attack action. The number of Training Points you have increases as you level up: 5 at 3rd Level, 8 at 7th Level, 10 at 11th Level, 13 at 14th Level, at 15 at 17th Level.

While you are incapacitated or dead, the creature can act on its own, doing its best to protect you and itself.

While traveling through your favored terrain with only the creature, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.

If this creature dies, you can spend 8 hours performing a ritual to pull a fey creature into the material plane or a plant creature from the forest. You can make this creature your companion as long as it is not hostile toward you.

Along with this, starting when you pick this subclass at level 3, each day choose a number of spells up to your Ranger level + your Wisdom modifier for your plant or fey to use from the druid or ranger spell lists. At level 3, these can be up to 2nd Level spells (4th Level at level 7, 6th Level at level 13, and 8th Level at level 17). This can only be used while your creature is within 30 feet of you and you have line of sight with the creature. To do this, you must spend two Training Points.

Writhing Attacks

Once a day, as a bonus action and after you take the Attack action, you can use your companion to restrain your enemies. The creature must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be grappled until it breaks out. This can be accomplished by either spending an action to break out or succeeding on a Strength saving throw at the end of its turn. This increases to twice a day at 11th level, and 3 times at 15th level.

Forest's Strength

Whenever your companion casts one of its spells, it gains temporary hit points equal to your level+your Constitution modifier.

Extension of the Self

Whenever you go to cast a spell and have a fey or plant companion, you can choose to cast the spell from your companion, causing your spell to come from the creature instead of yourself, increasing the range of the spell. This feature can be used a number of times a day equal to your Wisdom modifier.
