Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Tales of warriors rushing through a slew of monsters; maul in one hand, a longsword in the other. Fables of riders charging into battle; a lance stretching forward from either side of their mount. These are the stories of a Duel-Wielder, those with the strength and martial prowess to fight with two cumbersome weapons in unison, like no other warrior can.

A Duel-Wielder trades off defense for the flexibility and mobility that being unarmored provides, allowing them to focus their strength and technique into their weapons without being weighed down. They are the master at fighting with multiple large weapons, learning to hone their skill to simultaneously strike with both a two-handed weapon as well as an Off-Hand weapon, and devising defensive maneuvers to avoid the brunt of their enemies attacks. A Duel-Wielder's power as a combatant is unmatched but their unique fighting style is what truly sets them apart.

Bonus Proficiencies

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency in Athletics and Intimidation. Additionally, whenever you make a Charisma (Intimidation) check, you gain a bonus to the check equal to your Strength modifier.

Unbridled Rage

You are the master with large weapons. Starting at 3rd level you may enter an Unbridled Rage, provided that you aren’t wearing armor, and your Unbridled Rage ends early if you don any armor. While under the effects of your Unbridled Rage you gain the following benefits:

  • You may wield a weapon with the two-handed property in one hand, leaving the other free for an Off-Hand weapon. The Off-Hand weapon must have the light property.
  • While you are wielding a separate melee weapon in each hand, you gain a bonus to your AC equal to half your Proficiency bonus (rounded down).

Simultaneous Strikes

At 3rd level, while under the effects of your Unbridled Rage, you can strike with both of your weapons in tandem. As a bonus action, you may add the damage dice of your Off-Hand weapon to any melee weapon attack made as part of the Attack action, until the end of the current turn. The target of the melee weapon attack must be within the reach of both weapons.

Quick Counter

At 6th level, you have learned to use your Off-Hand weapon to deflect attacks, diminishing their effectiveness. When you or a friendly creature within your reach is hit by a melee attack, you may use your reaction to roll one of your Off-Hand weapon's damage die. Reduce the damage the target takes by the number rolled + your proficiency bonus (to a minimum of 0 damage).

Your Off-Hand weapon no longer needs to be light, but can not have the heavy or two-handed property.

Heavy Handed

At 10th level, while under the effects of your Unbridled Rage, you learn to use the full weight of both of your weapons. When you roll a damage die for an attack you make with a melee weapon, you can instead deal the maximum damage for that die. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until the start of your next turn.

When you use a weapon with the Versatile property as your Off-Hand weapon, you may use its two-handed damage die for your Simultaneous Strikes and Quick Counter features.

Reckless Charge

At 14th level, while under the effects of your Unbridled Rage, you can use your action to charge up to 60 feet in a straight line towards a creature and make a single attack against it with advantage. If you pass through the space of a Large or smaller creature during your charge, that creature is pushed 15 feet in a direction of your choice. If your movement is blocked by an object or creature that is Huge or larger, you immediately stop moving and your charge is lost.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.

Your Off-Hand weapon no longer has any restrictions, allowing you to use two heavy or two-handed weapons at once.
