Base Class: Fighter
While many believe that a strong attack can turn the tides of battle, Shield Bearers know the truth; surviving a strong attack can turn the tides of battle.
An imovable object can stop and unstoppable force; that is one of the main mantras of the Shield Bearers. Other fighters will try to hone their skills with the blade or other weapons while a Shield Bearer will focus on their defenses, including blocking otherwise unblockable attacks, protecting their allies, and even countering attacks.
A Shield Bearer is a protector, a guardian, a solid wall, an immovable object, and a powerful foe.
Tower Wall
Starting when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, your skill with the shield allows you to act as a sort of wall, protecting your allies.
While you are wielding a shield you can provide Half Cover to any creature of your choice within 5 feet of you.
Bracing Guard
Starting at 3rd level, you have learnt that sometimes your defenses won't always be enough and you may need to endure actual pain.
When you are hit by an attack, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by 1d6 + your Fighter level. You can use this feature without expending your reaction, if you do so you gain 1 level of exhaustion.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier and regain all expended uses at the end of a long rest.
Immovable Object
Starting at 7th level, you are able to cement yourself to the ground, resisting unwanted movement.
While you are wielding a shield, you are immune to any effect that would force you to move. This does not include charm effects. You can choose to not resist the movement effect.
Additionally, if you have already expended your reaction, you can expend a use of your Action Surge to take an additonal reaction.
Total Tower
Starting at 10th level, you can make yourself a bigger target, imposing yourself between your enemies and allies.
You can use your reaction to grant each creature of your choice Total Cover while they are within 5 feet of you until the start of your next turn.
The creature only benefits from the Total Cover during an attack or effect if you are between the target and the source.
You can use this effect a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, minimum of once, and regain all expended uses at the end of a long rest.
Offensive Guard
Starting at 15th level, you have learned to not only block attacks but also to follow up and attack fiercely.
When an attack misses you, you gain a bonus to the attack and damage rolls of your next attack. The bonus equals the AC bonus granted by your currently equipped shield.
Total Protection
Starting at 18th level, your defense is almost flawless, only the abnormal can break through it.
While you are wielding a shield, you gain resistance to non-magical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
Once per long rest, when you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead.
