Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Some Barbarians choose a path of inspiration, using their war songs to inspire their allies and instill doubt and fear in their enemies. These Barbarians traverse the many battlefields playing the songs of their people and using their powerful shouts in tandem with their martial vigor.

Bonus Proficiency

When the Barbarian chooses this Primal Path at 3rd level, they gain proficiency in the performance skill and one instrument of their choice.

War Song

Starting at 3rd level, when you rage you let out a resounding shout, triumphant horn bellow, or even resonating drum beat, inspiring your allies. When you rage you can choose a number of creatures up to your charisma modifier within 60 feet of you that are allied with you. Each one gains a +2 bonus to their Armor class, and Wisdom, Charisma, and Intelligence saving throws until the end of your next turn, provided they can see or hear you.

Additionally each effected creature can use their reaction and choose one of the following:

  • Immediately make one weapon attack, adding your charisma modifier to their damage dealt.
  • Immediately make a saving throw against one effect on themselves that is causing them to be charmed or frightened, adding your charisma modifier to the roll.

Spellcasting

Spellcasting

When you reach 3rd level, you augment your martial prowess with the ability to cast spells. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spell Listings for the Bard spell list.

Cantrips

You learn two cantrips of your choice from the Bard spell list. You learn and additionally cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Warcaller Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your Bard spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest

Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher

You know three 1st-level Bard spells of your choice, two of which you must choose from the enchantment and evocation spells on the Bard spell list.

The Spells Known column of the Warcaller Spellcasting table shows when you learn more bard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be an enchantment or evocation spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

The spells you learn at 8th, 14th, and 20th level can come from any school of magic.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the Bard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the Bard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must be an enchantment or evocation spell, unless you’re replacing the spell you gained at 3rd, 8th, 14th, or 20th level from any school of magic.

Spellcasting Ability

Charisma is your spellcasting ability for your bard spells, since you learn your spells through study and memorization. You use your Charisma whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Charisma modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a Bard spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Spellcasting Focus

You can use a musical instrument (see the Tools section) as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells.

Resonating Shout

Starting at 6th level, you’ve learned to exert your rage to better utilize your Inspiring Shout, pushing your allies beyond their limits. While raging, as a bonus action you can use one of your remaining Rages or Spell Slots to repeat your War Song effect.

Additionally, while raging you can cast Bard spells that don’t require concentration.

Threatening Presence

Starting at 10th level, your sheer force of will gives you an intimidating presence. You gain proficiency with the Intimidation skill if you don’t already have it. As a bonus action, you can make a Charisma (Intimidation) check against a creature you can see that isn’t incapacitated, contested by the target’s Wisdom (Insight) check. If you succeed, that creature takes a -2 to all attack rolls until the end of your next turn.

Warlords Call

Starting at 14th level, you become a powerful and intimidating presence on the battlefield while raging. Whenever you use your War Song ability each enemy that can see and/or hear you has disadvantage on their next Wisdom, Intelligence or Charisma saving throw.

Additionally, all the bonuses granted by your War Song ability are doubled.
