Base Class: Sorcerer
Your power is born from the ancient power in the frozen winterscapes of the world. Whether it was a secret of the frozen tundra, a spirit of nature, a mark from a powerful dragon, or any number of sources, your blood runs cold. Your skin is cold to the touch, and you don’t seem to mind when the temperature drops outside. You’re naturally more comfortable deep in the frozen wilderness, which will usually lead you to a more solitary lifestyle.
Cold Blooded
Your frozen bloodline protects you against the effects of the cold.
Starting at 1st level, you have resistance to Cold damage, and you suffer no ill effects from extreme cold weather.
Cryo Spells
Your frost background manifests in the form of spells that you can cast.
At 1st level, you learn the cantrip Frostbite and the spell Ice Knife. These do not count against number of cantrips/spells known and are always prepared.
Ice Shield
Starting at 6th level, you learn to quickly manipulate the air around you in response to an attack.
As a reaction, when you are targeted with a melee attack you can see, you can use your reaction to quickly freeze the air around you. A shield of ice appears, adding +2 to your AC, potentially causing the attack to miss you.
If this causes the attack to miss, the shield explodes into shards of ice that pierce your attacker, causing them and to make a DEX save against your spell save DC. On a failed save, they take 2d8 piercing and 2d6 cold damage, or half as much on a pass.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier between long rests. You may also convert 2 sorcery points into a use of this feature.
Ice Affinity
Starting at 6th level, you’ve learned to use your ice spells to greater effect. Whenever you deal damage with a spell that deals cold damage, you may add your Charisma modifier to the damage, and that damage reduces the target’s speed by 10ft until the start of your next turn.
Frost Form
Starting at 14th level, you may expend between 1 and 3 sorcery points to transform your body into your frost form. While in this form, your body is covered in a layer of ice and crystals of ice cover your body.
While in your frost form, you gain the following benefits, the effects of which last until the end of the transformation.
- You gain immunity to cold damage but vulnerability to fire damage.
- Your AC increases by the amount of sorcery points you expend.
- When you deal damage with a spell that deals cold damage, you can add an extra die of damage to the roll. If you expend 2 or 3 sorcery points, you can add 2 or 3 damage dice, respectively.
- You can hurl a spike made of ice from your arm. As a bonus action on your turn you may make a ranged spell attack against a single target within 60ft. On a hit, the attack deals 1d8 cold and 1d8 piercing damage. If you expend 2 or 3 points, the attack deals 2d8 cold and 2d8 piercing for 2 points expended or 3d8 cold and 3d8 piercing for 3 points.
Ice Clone
Starting at 18th level, when you are in your Frost Form, you can expend sorcery points to create icy clones of yourself.
As an action on your turn while you are in your Frost Form, you can expend 5 sorcery points to cause a clone of yourself to appear in an unoccupied space within 5ft of you. You can choose how the clone looks (It doesn’t necessarily have to look like you), but it is made entirely of ice. The clone has half your hit points but otherwise shares your statistics.
While the clone is active, you can cast spells as though you were in the clone’s space, but you must use your own senses. The clone shares your initiative and goes directly after you. For its action, it can cast any spell of 2nd level or lower. It can make your Ice Spike attack as a bonus action, dealing the same damage as your own.
The clone melts away after 1 minute, when it is reduced to 0 hit points, if your Frost Form ends, or if you die. Any items it is holding falls to the ground where it melts. Using this feature more than once per long rest requires an additional 5 sorcery points to summon. Multiple clones may be active at a time.
