Base Class: Barbarian
Most Barbarians gain their power from rage and spirits, this subclass gets it from a spirit of rage itself, the Oni. This Path also grants you access to spells linked with the spirits of the dead, the damned, and the tricksters who wander our everyday lives. Enter a darker and more silent Barbarian with the twisted powers of the Oni and the Yokai themselves.
Mark of the Oni
At 3rd level, you understand that for the greater strike, magic is sometimes needed. You can now cast spells while in rage, however the other rules about rage, including the concentration of spells still applies. In addition, casting a spell gained from this subclass continues your rage for another minute.
Yokai Spellcasting
At level 3, you also learn some of the ways of the Oni in the realms of magic. You gain the ability to cast the following spells a number of times equal to 1 + your Constitution modifier:
- Charm Person
- Sleep
- Comprehend Languages
Your Spell Save is 8 + Your Proficiency Bonus + Your Constitution Modifier.
Your Spell Attack is Your Proficiency Bonus + Your Constitution Modifier.
Trickster’s True Form
At 6th level, your rage turns your skin into Blue, Red, or Grey (your choice); and causes your teeth to grow tusks that curl and point out. Additionally, your hair, eyes, and tongue can also change if you so choose to customize your figure more. While raging, you gain this form, which grants you the following benefits:
- Advantage on all Constitution saving throws.
- You gain advantage on Intimidation and Persuasion checks.
- When you hit an enemy with an attack, they make a Constitution saving throw, if they fail their speed is halved until the end of their next turn.
Oni’s Wrath
At 10th level, you increase your spell casting ability. You gain one of the following spells:
- Fireball (Fire)
- Lightning Bolt (Lightning)
- Cone of the Cold (The damage is changed to 8D6 but the rest of the spell remains the same.) (Cold)
You can only cast the spell you pick once, gaining an additional use at levels 13 and 16. You regain all spent charges at the end of a long rest. In addition, you also gain resistance to the damage that the corresponding spell deals.
Death Mask
At 14th level, your rage hits harder not only in physical form, but mental form as well. When you are in rage and hit a target with a melee weapon attack, you can choose to mark them. When marked, a mask slowly starts to form on that person. Each time after when you hit the same target with another melee attack, the target makes a Constitution Saving Throw (it must meet or beat 8 + Your Strength Modifier + Your Constitution Modifier). On a failed save the mask grows giving that target with the following affects being given to that target:
- 1st Mark (The MouthPiece): +10 Hit Points.
- 2nd and 3rd Mark (The Eyes): +1 to Armor Class
- 4th Mark (The Hair): Advantage on all Saving Throws.
- 5th Mark (The Soul): Target is Unconscious.
After a target receives their 5th mark, they are no longer able to fight as their soul is now trapped in the Oni Mask of themselves. The mask can be removed but the target will remain Unconscious as you now own the target’s mind and soul within the mask. You can use an interaction to say a prayer and let the spirit free and back into its host, where the target will need to take a long rest. Alternatively, you can break the mask, which will outright kill the target, skipping death saving throws and ignoring any Hit Points it may have left, and causing them to die instantly. Doing this will grant you a permanent +3 to your Max Hit Points, but if you do this more than 12 times, your character is considered Evil.
