Bard
Base Class: Bard

Pundits of the College of the Press are specialists, usually researching and publishing words which speak to a certain truth- Or a certain belief. Less multi-focused than their College of Lore counterparts, bards of this college use their gifts to not only investigate matters down to the finest mintuae, but also to reveal private information, loosing close-kept secrets into the greater populace. To these bards, their work lies not in weaving stories or songs of beauty, but instead releasing the news to whomever they deem needing of it.

However, just as there are those who would use the skills learned to promote stories of truth or injustice, there are also those who would use them to spread lies and misinformation to better suit their agendas.

Members of the Press tend to congregate frequently, often forming their own guilds and presses to better accumulate the fruits of their labor, sharing it with the greater populace- Whatever their intention behind their stories may be.

The Inside Scoop

3rd-level College of the Press feature

You can communicate with people in a way that can convince them to give you information you seek. You can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration and make a Persuasion check. Roll the Bardic Inspiration die. You can add the number rolled to your total.

Bury the Lede

6th-level College of the Press feature

It's a well-established fact that you're able to inspire others. Less well-known is the fact that when a creature adds one of your Bardic Inspiration dice to its ability check, attack roll, or saving throw, the creature can add your charisma modifier to their roll. The player must state their intention before they roll. Once a character uses this ability, they are unable to use it until they finish a long rest, even if they are given another inspiration die.

The Pen is Mightier

6th-level College of the Press feature

You know the best place to get a story is from the source itself, even if the source is a place fraught with danger. You've honed the skill of keeping yourself safe by way of your skill with words. When you make a melee attack roll, you can add your charisma modifier to the attack roll instead of your strength modifier.

Mass Media

14th-level College of the Press feature

Your way with words has allowed you the ability to sway the masses with your magic. You can cast mass suggestion without expending a spell slot. You may also choose to expend one use of Bardic Inspiration. Choose one creature you targeted with mass suggestion. Roll a Bardic Inspiration die and subtract the number rolled from that creature's wisdom save. You can choose to do so after the creature makes its save, but before the DM tells you whether they succeed or fail.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
