Base Class: Bard
In the School of Mimicry, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. While other bards are learning lore or enchanting others, Mimic Bards are observers and listeners. They hone their ability to use their keen ears and eyes to copy what's around them, whether that be the chirping of a nearby bird, the appearance of a long-lost friend, or the arcane magic cast by an ally or foe.
Altered Self
You learn the alter self spell. It does not count against your spells known. You can cast it without expending a spell slot by using a bardic inspiration instead.
Improved Altered Self
You are very comfortable altering your appearance. If you use the alter self spell to change your appearance, you do not need to use a bardic inspiration or a spell slot if the following is true:
- The person into whom you're changing your appearance is listed on your character sheet among your allies, enemies, backstory, or other.
- You've seen this person for at least 10 minutes.
Casting alter self for any reason is also no longer a concentration spell for you.
Spell Mimic
You have the uncanny ability to use the residual elements of a recently cast spell to duplicate that spell.
If any creature within 60 feet of you successfully casts a spell, you may use a spell slot to cast the same spell as a reaction. You roll the appropriate dice yourself, using your own spellcasting modifiers. Casting a spell in this way has the following limitations:
- You must have an appropriate spell slot to cast the spell. If you are only able to cast 2nd level spells, and the original spell has a minimum level of 3, you are unable to mimic it.
- If the spell has a saving throw, the target of the spell automatically succeeds (unless the target chooses to fail the spell).
- If the spell requires consumable material components, you must also have those same components. If you don't have the proper components, the spell fails.
- You may not mimic your own spell as a reaction.
Voice of the Mockingbird
You can recreate the voice of any humanoid or beast that you've heard for at least 1 minute. If you are using these vocal imitations to deceive another creature who can not see you (or can see you in an altered self that is appropriate to the vocal imitation), you may roll your Deception (CHA) check with advantage.
