Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Rogues of the Veil of Shadows subclass have made a pact with a mysterious entity known only as "Mother," a being of immense power that dwells within the depths of darkness. These rogues have surrendered their very identities, becoming faceless avatars of shadow and stealth. In exchange, they are granted abilities that allow them to manipulate the dark, become nearly invisible, and even alter their form. These rogues are the perfect spies, assassins, and scouts, moving unseen and unheard by their enemies.

Mother's Blessing

At 3rd level, your transformation begins. You lose all of your facial features, becoming a blank canvas for Mother's work. You gain the following benefits:

  • You don't need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You gain darkvision out to a range of 60 feet. If you already have darkvision from your race, its range increases by 30 feet.
  • You have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks when hiding in Dim light or darkness.

Soul of the Shadows

Upon choosing this archetype at 3rd level, you learn to draw upon the essence of darkness. In dim light or darkness, you can use a bonus action to activate this essence, which remains active for 1 minute. While active, you gain the following benefits:

  • You don't need advantage on the attack roll to use your Sneak Attack against a creature if both you and the creature are in dim light or darkness.
  • Increase your movement speed by an amount equal to 10 x half your proficiency bonus (rounded down).
  • You can cast disguise self at will without expending a spell slot.

You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses after a short or long rest.

Shadow Form

Starting at 9th level, whenever in dim light or darkness, you can use an action to seemingly sink into the shadows, making you undetectable to the common eye. While sunken, you have a movement speed equal to your Soul of the Shadows movement speed. You are unable to move outside the shadows or interact with anything while in this state. You are immune to all nonmagical damage but vulnerable to all magical damage. If the shadow you reside in were to disappear suddenly, you would be forced out of the shadow and take 4d12 force damage. You can use a bonus action to reemerge. You can reemerge from the shadows using a bonus action. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses after a short or long rest.

Wraithful Smite

Beginning at 13th level, the shadows lend you their swiftness and surprise. While in dim light or darkness, you can teleport up to 20 feet to a target also in dim light or darkness when you take the Attack action, striking with advantage due to your sudden appearance. At 17th level, this range increases to 40 feet.

Consuming Darkness

At 17th level, Mother acknowledges your servitude and grants you a portion of her dominion over darkness. As an action, you can summon an intense cloud of darkness with a 90-foot radius centered on yourself. Within this cloud, all creatures except you are blinded and deafened. The cloud persists for up to 5 minutes or until you dismiss it with a bonus action. Radiant magic cast within the cloud paradoxically strengthens it, extending its duration by one minute. This feature cannot be used again until after a long rest.
