Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

Duelists are found throughout Airandor, though they appear in different forms. From members of official dueling clubs and societies like the Black Ribbon to the centurions of the Nienorean Legions and the jarl-champions of the Dragonborn raiding parties, the practice of patiently waiting for an opponent to strike so that you can respond from a position of advantage is common amongst martial traditions across the continent. There are differences in style and execution, but the core philosophy is the same whether you wield two daggers, a rapier and buckler, a spear and tower shield, or a broadsword or glaive held in both hands.

Parrying Stance

Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, as an action you can take a defensive stance, ready to parry away attacks and strike back swiftly and accurately. Until the start of your next turn, you gain a bonus to AC equal to your Intelligence Modifier. In addition, as a single use of your reaction, you may make a melee weapon attack against an enemy in range when they miss a melee weapon attack made against you, up to the amount of attacks you can make as part of the attack action on your turn. This number is one higher if you would be able to make a bonus action attack as per the rules on two-weapon fighting, and this additional attack is treated in all ways as it would be as if you'd made it on your turn (i.e. you do not add your proficiency to the damage unless you have Two-Weapon Fighting as a Fighting Style).

A Gentleman and a Soldier

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: History, Religion, Persuasion. Alternatively, you learn one language of your choice.

Persuasion

Religion

Honourable Challenge

Once per short rest, you can cast the spell Compelled Duel using Intelligence as your spellcasting ability. In addition, you do not end the spell by harming creatures besides the target, provided you only harm them as part of the reaction granted by your Parrying Stance.

Additional Fighting Style

At 10th level, you may choose an additional fighting style.

Honourable Challenge Improvement

From 15th level, you no longer need to take a short rest between uses of your Honourable Challenge ability.

Lightning Counter

On the turn after you use your Parrying Stance, you have advantage on attacks you make against enemies who missed any attacks against you the previous turn.
