Base Class: Fighter
At the exact moment of Tiamat and Bahamut's creation from the spilled blood of Io, some of Io's Soul/Life Force was also split into thousands of tiny pieces that scattered across the planet and infused themselves into all sorts of mortal beings. The main portion of the Soul/Life Force infused itself into a boulder which was perfectly spherical. The properties of the boulder were altered into a clear material with a multitude of shifting and swirling colorful cloudy Auras inside. It was once referred to as the Soul Sphere or the Heart of God. The Soul Sphere is said to only reveal itself to those it has deemed worthy, otherwise it will appear like any old random boulder to others. Rumors say that those deemed worthy of being in its presence will feel a resonating feeling in their Soul/Life Force as if it is somehow linked to the Soul Sphere and the beauty of the sphere cannot be explained or put into words.
Long ago, it was said there was a land populated by the strongest warriors the world had ever seen. These warriors had a very powerful Aura that emitted around their body and armor when in battle. They àlso had a very powerful life force which allowed them to leap high in the air and strike their enemies from above. Some legends talk about these warriors being able to summon wings and fly and that only the most elite of these warriors were capable of taking down a Dragon by themselves. That legend is where their name originated from, the Dragoon.
The remnants of a land or civilization that was once populated by powerful Dragoon warriors capable of killing a Dragon in one on one combat has never been found, like it was erased from existence. No traces of the physical location of the city and no traces of them in literature or artifacts that were left behind. All we have are a few spoken word stories and legends that were passed down from generation to generation.
Dragoon Aura
3rd-level Supreme Dragoon feature
Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you awaken the Spiritual Aura of the Dragoon within you.
Draconic Telepathy. You gain Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Draconic. Also, you can communicate telepathically with Dragons, Dragon kin and other Dragoons that are within 1 mile of you. Any ally that has an active Soul Fragment can also communicate telepathically with Dragons, Dragon kin and other Dragoons that are within 1 mile of you.
Dragoon Aura. You can activate your Dragoon Aura as a Bonus Action and while Dragoon Aura remains active you gain the following benefits if your equipped weapon is a Glaive, Halberd, Pike, Javelin, or Spear:
- Attacks against Dragon kin do additional force damage equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
- Your melee weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
- Immune against being Frightened.
- Attacking a flying enemy with a regular weapon melee attack gains access to Dragoon Ascension and Descension without using your action or reaction in order to reach the enemy and then landing below them.
- Dragoon Ascension. While in your Dragoon Aura state, as an Action, your horizontal jump distance is equal to 5 feet times your Proficiency bonus(even from a standstill or if you use all your walking speed). Your available vertical jump distance during this action is equal to Proficiency bonus multiplied by 10. No other Spell or Feature can increase the jump distance and If used out of battle the vertical jump distance is halved.
- Dragoon Descension. While in a Dragoon Aura state, as a Reaction, Falling damage is reduced for 5 times your Fighter level and you avoid becoming prone even if damage is taken due to not being able to reduce all the Falling damage.
Your melee weapon attacks can grow in strength and versatility while Dragoon Aura is active and your equipped weapon is a Glaive, Halberd, Pike, Javelin, or Spear. You can choose to make the first attack you make per encounter as a normal Dragoon Strike. Otherwise, this feature is unavailable and can become available after you make a successful Melee Weapon attack with a Glaive, Halberd, Pike, Javelin, or Spear. Once you use Dragoon Strike, the feature will become unavailable again and can be made available once more after another successful Melee Weapon attack with a Glaive, Halberd, Pike, Javelin, or Spear. When using Dragoon Strike or upgraded versions of Dragoon Strike and the target is engaged with one of your allies, that attack will have advantage.
- Dragoon Strike. If the target is within the range of your Dragoon Ascension ability, you can jump and use the distance allowed by Dragoon Ascension as additional distance from your walking distance to close the gap to make a ranged melee attack. If you are not able to make a vertical jump and strike from above then you will strike straight into the target without provoking attacks of opportunity. If you are able to make a vertical jump, you will strike with your attack from above the target and you will do so without provoking any attack of opportunity. If you land the attack, you will reroll your weapon damage die and add that as additional force damage to your melee weapon attack. You use the force of the impact to ricochet off and land in any unoccupied space of your choosing within 10 feet of the target also without provoking an attacks of opportunity or landing prone. On a Critical Hit, Flying enemies of size Large or smaller will fall and land prone. If Dragoon Strike misses, you take the force damage that would have been added to your melee weapon attack against the target and you land in an unoccupied space that the target chooses within 5 feet of it.
If you are able to cast spells, you can’t cast them or concentrate on them while Dragoon Aura is active. Your Dragoon Aura lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you haven’t attacked a hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then. You can also end your Dragoon Aura on your turn as a Bonus Action. Once you have used Dragoon Aura the number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, you must finish a long rest to regain them.
At Fighter level 10, the only way to end Dragoon Aura is if you are knocked unconscious or if you use a bonus action to end it.
At Fighter level 15, while Dragoon Aura is active your melee weapon attacks now score a critical hit on a roll of 18–20.
At Fighter level 20, you can activate Dragoon Aura an unlimited number of times and can end it at will.
Dragoon Soul
7th-level Supreme Dragoon feature
You have become more proficient in harnessing and controlling your Dragoon Aura and your attacks with your Glaive, Halberd, Pike, Javelin or Spear count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage while Dragoon Aura is active.
- Counter Attack. When you are in a Dragoon Aura state and you take damage from a creature that is within your weapons reach, you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against that creature if you are wielding a Glaive, Halberd, Pike or Spear.
Your Dragoon Soul is represented by your Dragoon Soul dice, which are each a d8. You have a number of these dice equal to your Fighter level, and they fuel various Dragoon Soul powers you have, which are detailed below.
Some of your abilities expend the Dragoon Soul die they use, as specified in each ability's description, and you can’t use a power if it requires you to use a die when your dice are all expended. You regain all your expended Dragoon Soul dice when you finish a long rest. In addition, as a bonus action, you can regain expended Dragoon Soul dice equal to your Proficiency Bonus, but you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
When you reach certain levels in this class, the size of your Dragoon Soul dice increases: at 13th level (d10), and 18th level (d12). The powers below use your Dragoon Soul dice.
Dragoon Attacking Rules
When Dragoon Strike becomes available you can choose to expend that Dragoon Strike instance into one of the following:
- Replace your Dragoon Strike with one of the abilities below that deals damage and expend the Dragoon Soul dice the ability requires. Dragoon Strike will become unavailable again after this attack
- Keep the damage from Dragoon Strike by spending 1 Dragoon Soul Die and also add one other ability that deals damage and expend the Dragoon Soul die required for that ability as well. Dragoon Strike will become unavailable again after this attack
- Or just use Dragoon Strike like normal. Dragoon Strike will become unavailable again after this attack
Critical Strike. You must spend 1 Dragoon Soul Die to add Critical Strike’s force damage to your melee weapon attack. If the target is within the range of your Dragoon Ascension, you can jump and use the distance allowed by Dragoon Ascension as additional distance from your walking distance to close the gap to make a ranged melee attack. If you are not able to make a vertical jump to strike from above then you will strike straight into the target without provoking attacks of opportunity. If you are able to make a vertical jump to strike the target from above, you will do so without provoking any attacks of opportunity. You use the force of the impact to ricochet off and land in any unoccupied space of your choosing within 10 feet of the target also without provoking an attack of opportunity or landing prone. The Force damage added to your melee weapon attack is equal to your Dragoon Soul die roll. If this feature is used on a critical hit from a d20 roll or with Dragoon Battle Litany, all Damage Dice rolled become an auto max roll when determining damage and the target becomes paralyzed until the end of its next turn. If the target is immune to being paralyzed it will instead become stunned even if its immune to becoming stunned until the end of its next turn. If Critical Strike misses, you take the force damage that would have been added to your melee weapon attack and you land in an unoccupied space that the target chooses within 5 feet of it. If this feature is used on a Natural 1 attack roll, the Dragoon Soul Dice will become an auto max roll when determining the damage you take. You expend the die only if the attack roll succeeds.
Breath Strike. You must spend 2 Dragoon Soul Die to add Dragoon Breath Strike’s force damage to your melee weapon attack. If the target is within the range of your Dragoon Ascension, you can jump and use the distance allowed by Dragoon Ascension as additional distance from your walking distance to close the gap to make a ranged melee attack. If you are not able to make a vertical jump to strike from above then you will strike straight into the target without provoking any attacks of opportunity. If you are able to make a vertical jump to strike the target from above, you will do so without provoking any attack of opportunity. You use the force of the impact to ricochet off and land in any unoccupied space of your choosing within 10 feet of the target also without provoking an attack of opportunity or landing prone. The Force damage added to your melee weapon attack is equal to your 2 Dragoon Soul die rolls. On a successful attack, the force damage from Breath Strike also hits all enemies within a 15ft sphere. Every enemy (no matter the size) except for the original target which is at the center of the Breath Strike is pushed outside the sphere's range in the direction opposite of where they are in relation to the center of the sphere. On a Critical Hit, all enemies hit within the sphere's range that are one size bigger than you or smaller are also knocked prone. If Breath Strike misses, you take the force damage that would have been added to your melee weapon attack and you land in an unoccupied space that the target chooses within 5 feet of it. You expend the dice only if the attack roll succeeds.
Piercing Talon Strike. Instead of making a Dragoon Strike or any of the variations above, you can spend 2 Dragoon Soul Die to make a Piercing Talon Strike as a ranged attack using a Javelin instead of your melee weapon. Roll to attack with either your Strength or Dexterity modifier, Javelin weapon attack bonus and proficiency bonus against each enemy to determine if the attack hits. Roll the two Dragoon Soul Dice and add that as Force damage to the thrown Javelin Piercing damage. According to the range allowed by your Javelin, all enemies hit within that straight line will take the Piercing and Force damage. You expend the dice only if the attack roll succeeds.
Marked Strike. You must spend 2 Dragoon Soul Die to add Marked Strike to any of your melee weapon attacks while Dragoon Aura is active. If the attack is successful, you place a mark on it and you will be able to know its location until the end of your next turn even if the target you hit is invisible or becomes invisible. If you have Eyes of the Dragoon active when you use Marked Strike, you will be able to sense that marked target's location within a mile even if its in full cover as long as Eyes of the Dragoon is active as well as any ally who has your Soul Fragment. You expend the dice only if the attack roll succeeds.
TrueSight Strike. You must spend 1 Dragoon Soul Die to add TrueSight Strike to any of your melee weapon attacks. If the target you hit has taken another form where they currently have hit points based on the new form like Polymorph, Shapechange, Possessing a creature or Wild Shape your attack’s damage will ignore the new form’s hit points and directly affect the hit points of the creature’s true form. The damage dealt will not visually effect the new form but will visually effect the true form once it reverts back. You expend the die only if the attack roll succeeds.
Elite Dragoon
10th-level Supreme Dragoon feature
The bond with your Dragoon Soul grows and the flow of power intensifies throughout your whole body and your armor, boots, helmet, gloves, etc that are don'ed are infused with your Dragoon Soul and you can change their appearance at will as long as Dragoon Aura is active in order to make them resemble a full set of Dragoon Armor in the style and colors of your choosing. Your equipped weapon also changes appearance to match the style of your armor. All armor and weapons retain their original stats. You ascend into the Rank of an Elite Dragoon and gain access to the following abilities:
Arial Assault. Once per long rest, As an Action you can summon Dragoon wings from your back with a wingspan equal to twice your height. Your flying speed is equal to your walking speed plus Fighter level for 1 hour. If you want to activate Arial Assault again before a long rest or want to extend your current hour for an additional hour you can spend 2 Dragoon Soul Die for each additional hour. If you already have wings because of your race, they will transform into Dragoon wings and gain the benefits as long as this feature is active.
Eyes of the Dragoon. While Dragoon Aura is active, as a Bonus Action you can spend 2 Dragoon Soul die and activate Eyes of the Dragoon to buff your critical hit rate. Your eyes gain the appearance of Dragoon eyes. Your pupil elongates vertically similar to a Dragon but the difference is that it will also elongate horizontally at the center to resemble a cross or crosshair. Attack rolls of 18 or higher is considered a critical hit for 1 minute.
At 15th level, you will need to spend 3 Dragoon Soul die instead of 2 to activate Eyes of the Dragoon on yourself. The vision of your Dragoon eyes gets sharper and the color of your Iris glow brighter, Attack rolls of 17 or higher are considered a critical hit for 1 minute.
Soul Fragment. While Dragoon Aura is still active and you activate Eyes of the Dragoon on yourself, you unlock access to Soul Fragment. This ability allows you to temporarily fragment your Dragoon Soul into one or more allies that are within 60 feet of you at the exact moment you Activate Eyes of the Dragoon on yourself. The maximum number of additional allies you are able to give these buffs to is equal to half your proficiency bonus rounded down.
You must spend 1 Dragoon Soul die per ally in order to share a fragment of your Dragoon Soul with them which increases their critical hit rate. One eye from each of those allies gains the appearance of a Dragoon's eye. That ally's attack roll of 19 or higher is a critical hit for the remainder of your 1 minute of Eyes of the Dragoon. Soul Fragment provides a visual and telepathic link amongst you and your allies that have a Soul Fragment.
At 18th level, you must spend 2 Dragoon Soul die instead of 1 for each Soul Fragment, each ally will gain the appearance of Dragoon eyes on both eyes and attack rolls for those allies of 18 or higher are considered a critical hit for the remainder of your 1 minute.
If Dragoon Aura is dropped at any time during the 1 minute your Eyes of the Dragoon are active, you and your allies lose these benefits.
Dragoon's Ferocity
15th-level Supreme Dragoon feature
Dragoon's Ferocity. As a Bonus Action right after landing a melee attack, the target senses the bloodlust of the Dragoon Soul within you and you can spend 3 Dragoon Soul Dice on that target to use Dragoon's Ferocity in order to decrease the targets AC by 2 for 1 minute or spend 5 Dragoon Soul Dice to decrease the targets AC by 4 for 1 minute. You gain half the AC that was decreased by the target for that minute. If you use this feature again before the minute is over the effects will drop and then applied to the new target for another minute. If the target is incapacitated the effects will drop.
Dragoon of Legend
18th-level Supreme Dragoon feature
Lawful and Chaotic Dragoon. The bond that you have mastered with your Dragoon Soul aligns itself with your attitudes toward society and order (lawful, chaotic, or neutral). The alignment you chose from the start of your journey will determine which of the following features you learn at 18th or 19th level and 20th level. You are only allowed to use one of the two features below once per long rest.
- Lawful: will learn Dragoon Shield starting at level 18 and Dragoon Battle Litany at level 20.
- Chaotic: will Learn Dragoon Battle Litany starting at level 18 and Dragoon Shield at level 20.
- Neutral: will learn the feature of your choosing starting at level 19 and the other at level 20.
Dragoon Shield. You can activate Dragoon Shield as your Reaction to summon a shield for protection. Any magical weapon attack, spell or feature done against you and any of its effects are automatically reflected back to the enemy attacking and it has no effect or damage to you. If used during an area of effect spell, magical weapon attack, or feature, your Shield extends your protection to your allies that are in the area of effect with you and is directed back to the enemy attacking and the same number of enemies equal to your allies that were targeted. Your allies gain the same protection as you do for that attack.
At 20th level, if you have given a Soul Fragment to an ally and they are attacked, you can use your reaction to swap places with them first and then Dragoon Shield will activate on that attack.
Dragoon Battle Litany. As an Action, you activate Dragoon Battle Litany which allows you to make one successful attack roll into an auto Critical Hit for any attack you choose within 5 minutes.
At 20th level, 1-3 of your allies that have an active Soul Fragment when you use this feature on yourself will also get the Dragoon Battle Litany feature for 1 minute. If your ally has been given the Dragoon Battle Litany feature and then the Soul Fragment feature drops they will still have the Dragoon Battle Litany active for the remainder of the 1 minute.
