Base Class: Monk
Startlingly rare is the monk who would forego their impressive mobility to use weaponry typically better suited to an armored warrior, but the few who do are a frightening sight on the battlefield. Monks of this tradition have studied the combat tactics of the oni and use them to deadly effect.
Kanabō Technique
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you treat all weapons with the Heavy or Two-Handed property as monk weapons at the cost of speed.
This specialized training grants the following benefits.
- On your turn, you can choose to forego half your movement speed to use your Dex modifier in place of Str for attacks with a glaive, greataxe, greatclub, greatsword, halberd, maul, or pike.
- You learn how to speak, read, and write Giant.
- You ignore the Heavy weapon property.
Ogre's Might
At 6th level, the magic of the oni permeates your form, granting the following benefits.
Magic Weapons. Your weapon attacks count as magical for the purpose of overcoming Resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
Minor Regeneration. In combat, you regain 2 Hit Point at the start of your turn if you have at least 1 Hit Point.
This increases to 4 Hit Points at 9th level, 6 Hit Points at 12th level, 8 Hit Points at 15th level, and 10 Hit Points at 18th level
Oni with an Iron Club
Starting at 11th level, as a bonus action you can spend 1 ki point to take on the visage of a fearsome oni for 1 minute. Your eyes begin to glow and spectral horns appear on your head.
While the visage is active, you gain the following benefits.
Fearsome Mien. Once during each of your turns, when you hit a creature with an attack, you can force it to make a Wisdom saving throw, and if the saving throw fails, the target is frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
Empowered Swing. Once on each of your turns when you hit a target with a weapon with the Heavy or Two-Handed property, you can deal extra damage to the target equal to your Martial Arts die.
Tyrant of the Northeast
At 17th level, your connection to the power of the oni is complete, giving you the following benefits.
Fortified Form. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Giant Weapons. You consider weapons for large size creatures to be monk weapons. Regardless of their prior game statistics, their base damage dice are double that of a normal sized weapon of that type. (for example, a glaive taken from an oni would deal 2d10+Dex)
