Base Class: Wizard
With the advent of firearms making their way slowly out of Darkanian and their development within the industrious city of Ravensport, those who practice the arcane arts in the country of Ardonia have begun utilizing these firearms to increase the effectiveness of their spells to avoid capture by the Inquisitors.
Very few Spell Slingers have appeared in Ardonia, notably within the city of Ravensport where many underground mage dens have created a safe place for those illegally practicing high level magic. Some Spell Slingers have taken what they’ve learned and passed on their knowledge to young casters afraid of practicing their growing art, risking losing their freedom or even their lives.
To some Spell Slingers are seen as heroic outlaws, using their knowledge and skill to protect those the repressive laws target. While others see them as dangerous and violent criminals mixing deadly new technology and incredibly powerful, illegal spells to lay waste to those who would
Bonus Proficiencies
At 2nd level, you gain proficiency with Firearms and Tinker’s Tools.
You can use your Tinker’s Tools to design and create new firearms. Your firearms are specially designed to fire rounds made from small spell scrolls, consuming the scroll and casting the spell without using one of your spell slots.
Spellsmith
Starting at 2nd level, your study into the combination of firearms and spellcasting enable you to craft small spell scrolls that you use as ammunition for your firearms.
When crafting these Scroll Rounds you spend an hour creating the scroll and 10 gold worth of fine paper and ink per level of the spell (cantrips have a cost of 5 gold). If the spell has material components they must be present while the scroll is being crafted. If the spell consumes the materials so does the scroll (if the materials have a value associated with them this is not included in the 10 gold per level cost of the scroll itself.)
These spells must have a range greater than 5 ft., a casting time no longer than 1 action, and a spell level of 6 or lower. You can have up to 6 of these Scroll Rounds crafted at a time. If you craft another Scroll Round while you already have 6 your oldest Scroll Round loses its magic charge and becomes inert. When you use a Scroll Round to cast a spell the round is consumed but does not use one of your spell slots.
Using a Scroll Round is considered taking the Cast a Spell action.
Specialty Bullet
Starting at 6th level, choose three spells that you know with a max spell level of 3. When crafting Scroll Round for these spells you spend half as much on the ink and paper. The cost of material components with a specific value are not reduced.
Fan the Hammer
Starting at 6th level, when you take the Attack action on your turn and make a ranged weapon attack with your firearm you can use your bonus action to make a bonus attack against the same target. Your bonus attack does not benefit from your proficiency modifier.
Double Action
Starting at 10th level, you’ve learned to improve your Scroll Rounds to combine them with the effects of your mundane ammunition.
When you use a Scroll Round to cast a spell that targets a single creature you can also make a ranged weapon attack with your firearm against the same target, making separate attack rolls for the spell using your spell attack modifier, and the weapon attack using you ranged weapon attack modifier. You weapon attack roll has disadvantage on this attack.
Your weapon attack no longer suffers disadvantage while using this feature once you reach 17th level.
Expertly Crafted Ammunition
Starting at 14th level, your time crafting Scroll Rounds has improved your ability to craft and maintain your unique ammunition. You can now maintain up to 12 Scroll Rounds at a time. Additionally, choose 2 spells of 6th level or lower. The cost of crafting Scroll Rounds for these spells are reduced by half.

Posted May 29, 2020Okay, this is the best version of a gun wizard I have seen so far on D&D Beyond. I love the scroll rounds that are like magical bullets. This is a really great subclass.
