Monk
Base Class: Monk

Masters of the Flowing Spirit see all existence as a river. Each soul is a tributary, and as each river flows into the same ocean and is fed by the same rain, so too are all beings connected. Wanderers as much as philosophers, they cherish their own experiences in the world and how they are shaped by them. But as rivers become obstructed by debris and dams, forces which inhibit the flow of life must sometimes be removed.

Followers of the Flowing Spirit often study with the wizened masters of their order, before leaving to connect with and experience the world on their own. They seek to experience life, the good and the bad. Many set out with a guiding principle, a specific part of the world they hope to experience; its people, its food, its forests, and so on. Others are more broad, and simply appreciate all of their encounters.

These disciples are usually of humble appearance, but many choose to lavish themselves in finery so as to enjoy the feeling of luxury. Some have been known to decorate themselves in riches for a time, then give away their wealth when they've decided it's time to change again. While they are as different as the rivers of the world--a fact they cherish--these monks almost invariably agree that change, growth, and new experience is good, and always strive to avoid stagnation.

Bonus Proficiency

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Insight skill, as your mind is honed towards understanding others. If you are already proficient in the Insight skill, you may choose another skill to become proficient in.

Flowing River Strike

At 3rd level, the flow of your ki allows you to manipulate the movements of your enemies, as your spiritual energy flows into theirs.

Whenever you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you may spend 1 ki point to attempt to Shove the target. When you Shove a target this way, you may make a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check instead of the usual Strength (Athletics) check.

Restore Flow

At 3rd level, you can use your own flowing ki to invigorate itself or that of another creature, rejuvenating their body

As an action, you may spend 1 ki point to touch a creature and restore a number of Hit Points equal to a roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier.

When you use your Flurry of Blows, you can replace one of the unarmed strikes with a use of this feature without spending a ki point for the healing.

Surging Waters

The soothing power of your flowing ki can empower your allies even further. When you use Restore Flow on a creature, you can also end one disease or one of the following conditions affecting the creature: blinded, deafened, paralyzed, poisoned, or stunned.

Alternatively, instead of removing one of those conditions, you may choose to grant that creature great vigor. Their speed increases by 5 feet until the end of your next turn, and their movements do not provoke attacks of opportunity while their speed is increased this way.

You may use this feature to increase a creature's speed this way a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier. You regain all uses when you complete a long rest.

Halt the Tide

At 11th level, when you wield your ki to negatively affect your enemies, you may further inhibit their bodies by blocking the flow of their natural enemy. When you successfully Shove a creature using Flowing River Strike, you may choose one of the following effects to subject that creature to:

  • That creature becomes poisoned until the start of your next turn
  • That creature's speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn
  • You may push the creature up to a number of feet equal to 5 times your proficiency bonus instead of the usual 5 feet. You may only select this option if you chose to push the target.

Soul of Worldly Rain

At 17th level, your soul is as the rain, boundless and in unity with all things that flow. As you flow into your allies, bringing new life, so to do you crush your enemies with an unrelenting tide.

Whenever you heal a creature with Restore Flow, you restore a number of hit points equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier. Whenever you heal another creature, you may choose to maximize the dice values. Once you do, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest.

Whenever you successfully Shove a creature with Flowing River Strike, you may deal additional necrotic damage to the target equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier.
