Base Class: Sorcerer
Sorcerors of oromantic origin have heightened awareness of the earth and stone around them, and can control it in powerful, though not always predictable, ways.
Your innate magic comes from the earth itself. You may be a dwarf with a greatly heightened sense of the earth and stone around you, the next step in dwarven evolution perhaps. Or you could be another race, affected by elemental earth at a young age, with its mark indelibly left on your powers and abilities. Perhaps you were ensorcelled by someone in your tribe or religion for specific purpose. Or your magic could just be a fluke, with no apparent cause. However it came to be, you have always felt the earth around you and been able to influence it in ways frightening and powerful.
This manifests in powerful control and influence over the tectonic forces around yourself. To a smaller degree you are also able to create colder temperatures by redirecting heat and pressure from the surrounding area.
Consider making the following spells available to your sorceror if not already available:
- Armor of Agathys - Using the cold to shield themselves.
- Barkskin - Using the earth to increase personal defense
- Bones of the Earth - Direct application of Oromantic power
- Chill Touch - Created by stealing heat from that spot
- Commune with Nature - A natural extension of tremorsense, at DM's discretion
- Cone of Cold - Created by stealing heat from a great area
- Destructive wave - Consider reflavouring as bludgeoning or force damage
- Earth Tremor - Direct application of Oromantic power
- Earthbind - Not immediately clear, flavor as chenneling the earth wanting to pull things back down
- Earthquake - Direct application of Oromantic power
- Erupting Earth - Direct application of Oromantic power
- Flesh to Stone - Unique application of Oromantic power
- Fog Cloud - Created by drawing heat out of the air, creating fog. Wouldn;t work if there is no moisture
- Frost fingers - Drawing heat away
- Ice knife - Concentrated heat removal strike
- Ice Storm - Enormous heat removal strike
- Investiture of Ice - heat removal on self
- Investiture of stone - Investing self with stone
- Magic stone - Changing the properties of a stone to make it hurt more
- Meld into stone - Unique application of Oromantic power
- Mold Earth - Direct application of Oromantic power
- Move Earth - Direct application of Oromantic power
- Ray of Frost - Heat removal on others
- Shatter - Pressure forces concentrated in a small spot
- Spider climb - Only works on rock and earth
- Stone Shape - Unique application of Oromantic power
- Stoneskin - Using the earth to increase personal defense
- Transmute Rock - Direct application of Oromantic power
- Wall of Sand - Direct application of Oromantic power
- Wall of Stone - Direct application of Oromantic power
Oromantic Senses
Starting when you choose this origin at 1st level, you have a heightened awareness of your surroundings connected to the earth. You have Tremorsense out to 100 ft. Its range will increase at levels 6, 14 and 18.
You also have an unconscious awareness of the condition of the earth around you at all times. If an earthquake were to be starting within the same range as your Tremorsense or a stalactite were loose, or a mountainside was ripe for avalanche, you get +5 to your passive perception for detecting those problems.
Oromantic Reactions
Because of your awareness of the earth around you, you can instantly react when something changes that you perceive. You must be able to perceive this change in the range of your tremor sense. You can use the following spells as a reaction to an earth event within your tremorsense range if you have the appropriate spell slot available:
- Mold Earth
- Ice Knife
- Bones of the Earth
- Earth Tremor
- Erupting Earth
- Meld into Stone
- Stone Shape
- Transmute Rock
- Earthquake
Oromantic Precision
You have gained finer control of your Oromantic powers. Now when you use spells that affect the earth you can carve out safe spaces for your companions or others. This modification to the affected area occurs in unlimited 5 foot square increments.
Some uses of this include:
- Affecting enemies but not allies.
- Separating enemies from your allies or from other enemies
- Isolating enemies
- DM discretion other ideas of your own devising.
Oromantic Obelisk
You can create an Obelisk through transmutation that is 1 foot by 1 foot and looks like an octohedron that floats near you. This takes 30 minutes and requires there to be some kind of homogenous stone/earth/metal material near you (a wall or the ground will suffice) which will be transmuted into the obelisk (leaving an octohedron shaped hole).
You cannot create more than one and you can only create an obelisk once every 24 hours.
The Obelisk is made of whatever stone/crystal/metal or other earth element you would like. Its appearance is likewise determined by yourself at DM's discretion. It may be plain stone or whirling glowing sigil encrusted patterns.
While the obelisk is with you you can do the following:
- Bonus Action - Attack with the obelisk - It has a range of 30 feet, rolls a d20 + CHA + proficieny to hit, and does silvered magical bludgeoning damage equal to your sorceror level.
- Bonus Action - Consume the Obelisk - If you consume the obelisk you receive one spell slot of your choosing back. The obelisk is consumed.
- Action - Channel the Obelisk - You can channel your power through the obelisk into another creature. That creature can cast a spell or take an action of their choosing with its associated costs. If it is an attack or spell that does damage, add your CHA modifier to the total damage with the same type as the majority of the damage.
Oromantic Smothering
You have gained the ability to stop earth effects, natural or magical.
As an action you can use a spell slot to counter an earth effect.
The DM will determine the appropriate spell level for the earth effect.
Some suggestions of effects and the level of spell slot needed to counter them:
- Earth tremor - 1st level
- Maximillian's Earthen Grasp - 2nd level
- Erupting Earth - 3rd level
- Stone Shape - 4th level
- Wall of stone - 5th level
- Bones of the earth - 6th level
- Earthquake - 8th level
Oromantic Creation
You have now gained enough power and precision to create reasonably well on a large scale with Oromantic power.
You can create or carve a dwelling or other stone/earth/metal 20ft by 20ft or 5-10ft by 40 ft once per day.
This will take 8 hours.
If you choose to create, you must have the raw materials within 30 ft and they are consumed as you create.
If you choose to carve, it could have unintended consequnces.
While you can craft contours and doorways, furniture or plumbing would rely on other spells and effects.
Oromantic Mastery
Your mastery of Oromantic power has granted you new abilities:
- You can take cast two Oromantic spells with your Oromantic reaction.
- You can use the meld into stone spell at will, have movement speed of 40 feet while melded with the stone, and can detect the outside world with your tremorsense.
