Base Class: Rogue
A dwarven man crouches in the bushes, looking down the wooded path. He spots the carriage, leisurely making its way towards the bend, with a small group of guards at the front and rear. He looks across the path, seeing the rest of his crew waiting just like him. Once the carriage passes the turn, he runs out of the shadows, and rushes the side of the carriage, just as an arrow sinks into the shoulder of a guard out in back. The man runs to the guards in the front, his greatsword in his hands, and proceeds to cut through them with ease, all in preparation to steal the valuables enclosed with the patrons of this carriage. The carriage driver, terrified of what he just saw, stops the carriage in its tracks, all according to plan.
A Brigand is a rogue who forgoes some of the the talents of espionage and stealth in favor of extreme combat supremacy. Brigands focus on living in the heat of a battle, able to avoid taking damage while using precise yet powerful strikes with large and heavy weapons in order to decimate foes. They may not be able to sneak around like others, but they make up for it in their ability to rend foes with terrifying efficiency.
Portions of this subclass were inspired by other creations I have found, with the main concept being inspired by the Heavy Hitter subclass by u/morethanwordscansay on Reddit. Thick of the Fight is taken from the Thug subclass from u/funbutdumb. Please check out these subclasses as well, as they are both amazing creations!
Power and Precision
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with weapons with the heavy property. You can use your Sneak Attack feature on attacks made with these weapons. You also gain proficiency with medium armor.
Thick of the Fight
Starting at 3rd level, you are able to concentrate even large battles. When you land an attack on a target when there are two or more hostile creatures within 5 feet of you (including your target), you are able to add your Sneak Attack damage to the attack, even if you don’t have advantage.
Terrifying Striker
Starting at 9th level, you gain the ability to inspire fear in the hearts of your enemies with your strikes. When you deal damage to a creature using your Sneak Attack, you can use your bonus action to force a number of creatures within 30 feet that can see you (including the creature you struck) equal to your Strength modifier (minimum of 1) to make a Wisdom saving throw versus your DC (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier). On a failure, they are frightened of you until the end of your next turn. You can use this ability once per long rest.
Force of Will
At 13th level, you have become steeled towards what might cause others to falter in combat. You gain immunity to the frightened condition. Your Evasion feature can also now apply against abilities which force you to make a Constitution saving throw, as long as it is still has an area of effect.
Strength and Spirit
Starting at 17th level, you become a force of power and deadly ferocity. If you land a critical hit with a heavy weapon and deal Sneak Attack damage, you may use your bonus action to move up to half your base movement and attack another target. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks. If you hit the target, you may attack and deal Sneak Attack damage again. If there are no other targets, you may attack the same target again, but you do not deal Sneak Attack damage.
