Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of the Artist is one taken by Paladins that protect creativity, expression, and freedom. They see art as the greatest form of freedom, and to squander that is to attack freedom directly. Many Paladins under this Oath — sometimes called brush knights — are adorned with tattoos and spend their free time sketching, drawing, painting, or otherwise creating art. They are quick to find the deeper meaning in things, and will not tolerate this kind of culture being oppressed. Unlike other Paladins, brush knights are generally more chaotic and loose, although they will still try to follow their code without failure.

Brush knights use their imagination as the basis of their divine magic and power. They conjure weapons of which they've drawn in sketchbooks or created small sculptures of. Some notable brush knights have even tattooed the weapons to their bodies

TENETS OF THE ARTIST

The tenets of the Oath of the Artist paladin are not as strict as other Oaths, as these paladins can be as chaotic and variable as the art they create. However, they all lead towards similar goals:

Freedom. Every sentient soul deserves to live their life as they choose in peace, so long as their way of life does not impede on others'.

Creativity. The mind is a wonderous thing. Let it wander and lead you to possibilities previously unthought.

Interpretation. Some things may have a deeper meaning than what appears on the surface. Grow wise from reading between the lines.

Experimentation. You never know what you like until you try it. If the downside of saying no is that you'll miss out, then say yes.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Artist's Brush. As a bonus action, you can summon a magic weapon from your imagination. You can choose to have the weapon replace the weapon you are currently holding, which is automatically teleported into a pocket dimension. It has the finesse and thrown properties (range 20/60), its damage die is a d10, the weapon deals force damage. When thrown or disarmed from you, the weapon immediately returns to your hand after the attack or disarming. You use your Charisma modifier for the attack and damage rolls instead of Strength or Dexterity.

The weapon stays active for 1 minute, or until you dismiss it as a bonus action, after which your original weapon teleports back into your hand if you replaced it.

Erase Weapons. As an action, you can magically erase your enemy's weapons as if they were sketched in pencil. One creature you can see within 30 feet must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature cannot make any melee weapon or melee spell attacks until the end of their next turn. This includes unarmed strikes and natural melee weapons.

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Aura of Brush Strokes

By 7th level, your Artist's Brush begins to protect your allies while you focus on the fight ahead. When a hostile creature within 10 feet of you deals damage to one of your allies, you can use your reaction to make a melee or ranged weapon attack against them with your Artist's Brush, even if it's not summoned by your Channel Divinity. If it is summoned, the attack roll is made with advantage.

At 18th level, the range of this ability increases to 30 feet.

Artist's Eraser

Starting at 15th level, your Artist's Brush grows in power as you draft and redraft its design. It scores a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20 and, once per round, you can cause one creature you damage with your Artist's Brush or Aura of Brush Strokes to have disadvantage on saving throws against your paladin spells and Channel Divinity: Erase Weapons until the end of your next turn.

Warrior's Masterpiece

At 20th level, as an action, you release your inner creativity, becoming a beacon of free expression. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:

  • 3 Artist's Brushes circle around you, granting you a +2 bonus to your armor class.
  • The range of your melee weapon attacks with any of your Artist's Brushes increases to any enemy within your Aura of Brush Strokes.
  • When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make a melee attack with each Artist's Brush that surrounds you instead of attacking with your held weapon. Each attack made this way must target a different creature or object.
  • As a bonus action, you can make 1 melee attack with one of your Artist's Brushes, provided you have not attacked with one yet. If you take this bonus action, you cannot make another attack with your Artist's Brushes for the rest of this turn

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
