Base Class: Rogue
Shadow Dancers embrace the darkness, skirting around like shadows in the night, they are immensely effective spies and assassins, being more than capable of making their way in and out even the most secure locations without being seen.
Touched by the mystical powers of the Shadowfell, Shadow Dancers utilize the cover of darkness to the fullest extent, combining their agility and cunning with illusion magic to confuse and disable their enemies in order to deal devastating blows without ever being seen. The Shadow Dancer excels at fighting in the dark. And if they are forced to fight in the daylight, they are capable of creating their own shadows.
Most Shadow Dancers are the shadar-kai, infused with the magic of their home-plane of the Shadowfell. But the secrets of the Shadow Dancer can be acquired elsewhere, if one is willing to look deep into the darkest reaches of the world.
Eyes of Darkness
At 3rd level when you choose this archetype, your eyes become enchanted with shadow magic, granting you supernatural vision. You can see normally in darkness, both magical and non magical, to a distance of 120 feet.
Shadow Magic
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to manipulate the shadows to aid you. You gain a number of Shadow Points equal to your Rogue level. Any spent Shadow Points are regained after finishing a long rest.
These spells do not require verbal or material components when cast using this feature.
Spells require you to spend an amount of Shadow Points equal to the level of a spell. When standingin bright light the Shadow Point cost for a spell is increased by 1 (including cantrips). You cannot cast spells at higher levels by spending additional Shadow Points.
You learn the following spells:
- Cantrips: Minor Illusion, Prestidigitation and Thunderclap
- 1st Level spells: Disguise Self, Hunter's Mark, Silent Image
- 2nd level spells: Darkness, Pass Without Trace and Flame Blade
One with the Darkness
At 9th level, your ability to exploit darkness and shade to your advantage greatly improves. You have advantage on any Dexterity (Stealth) checks you make while standing in dim light or darkness.
Additionally you learn the Invisibility and Misty Step spells and can cast them using your Shadow Magic feature.
- When standing in dim light or darkness, you can cast Misty Step at no cost if the target space is an area of dim light or darkness. When cast in this way, the distance you can teleport with the spell increases to 60 feet.
- You can cast Invisibility at no cost when standing in darkness, but if cast in this way, the effect ends immediately if you enter an area of bright light.
Dark Imbuement
At 13th level, your mastery of shadow magic allows you to weave negative energy into your weapon attacks in order to inflict additional damage, as well as weakening your target's ability to regain their strength. As a bonus action you can spend Shadow Points to imbue a single weapon attack to do additional necrotic damage. If you do this on a weapon attack that would benefit from Sneak Attack, the damage from Sneak Attack also becomes necrotic damage.
When you use this feature, your next weapon attack that hits deals additional damage based on how
many Shadow Points you spent. The Shadow Point cost for this feature is increased by 1 when
standing in an area of bright light.
- 1 point: 1d6 additional necrotic damage. The damaged creature cannot regain hit points until the end of your next turn.
- 2 points: 2d6 additional necrotic damage. The damaged creature cannot regain hit points for 1 minute.
- 3 points: 3d6 additional necrotic damage. The damaged creature cannot regain hit points until it has finished a short or long rest.
Shadow Dance
At 17th level, your dark powers reach their peak, allowing you to dash through the shadows at incredible speeds, assaulting several enemies seemingly at once. As an action, choose up to five creatures you can see within 30 feet of you, or 60 feet if you and each of the targets are in dim light or darkness. You may make a single melee attack against each target. On a hit, the target takes damage from your weapon as normal. You then teleport to an unoccupied space you can see within 5 feet of one of the targets. Each of these attacks can benefit from Sneak Attack. If your weapon is affected by your Dark Imbuement feature, that effect ends on the weapon after the last of these attacks instead of
the first. You cannot target a creature more than once using this feature.
Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you have finished a long rest. You can regain
the use of this feature early by expending 5 Shadow Points.
