Hello all, trying to make a custom race, and attempting to make it so the AC starts the calculation at 8, not 10, for base AC. I can't seem to figure how I can set this in the options available in homebrew, and was hoping someone could help me out. Cheers.
That was actually a really, really elegant way to solve the problem, thanks! Now I just have to figure out how/if it should affect armored AC (which i still can't figure as well T__T)
The idea for the homebrewed race is a porcelain warforged. Due to the relative rarity of materials needed to repair this race, they have minus 2AC, and even while armored, as they still fragile. Where the armor would stop a blow from damaging A normal creature and the energy of the blow would be absorbed, The armor cannot entirely negate the damage done to the body due to the Brittle nature of their make. I'm still trying to iron out the advantages and disadvantages of this class but I'm not sure if this is overall balanced, I'm trying to implement the feeling of this fragility into gameplay.
The idea is that they were commissioned as beautiful, expressionless caretakers, courtiers, or entertainers. To make up for this combat weakness, they get a bonus to charisma and a proficiency in persuasion and performance. Enemy creatures also roll with disadvantage when they attempt to make an insight check targeted towards you. The main idea is that they are predisposed towards caster classes my ideas were mainly sorceror, warlock or wizard, With the barbarian or monks unarmored abilities overriding this weakness.
This also provides a neat roleplaying opportunity towards the idea of Kintsugi, where in a damaged item, the cracks would be filled with molten gold or something to that effect it to highlights the beauty of being reconstructed after damage. I thought this would be a really neat idea/quirk to role play into being, having an obsession with polishing or repairing your body, with purchased materials, or in desperation, stealing gold in order to conform to an obsession with beautifying oneself.
I am looking to do something similar but a progressive penalty for a progressive armor type (eg. Light armor -1, med -2, heavy -3, etc). As well as give them a bonus to Unarmored

I can tell you how to do it, but first you gotta tell my why you race would have a negative modifier to their AC even if they are wearing armor.
