At first I thought the Site Rules & Guidelines might be being counted as a thread, but the other thread counts are correct. I understand if hidden/deleted threads might be a thing, but it would make sense for the thread count to reflect what the current user can see.
The News & Announcements forum shows as having two threads, but when you click through, the only thread there is "Welcome to Phase One of the D&D Beyond Beta!"

So this is because the "announcement" (the forum rules) you see on all pages, is actually created in that section.
I do stuff, sometimes.
