Hi, I am trying to make a subclass and I can't figure out how I have done it but I have a drop down for selectable spells within the character builder under oath spells but the oath spell list themselves is not appearing in the prepared spells. Would appreciate and advice/direction on where I am going wrong? Thanks.
You added them to the feature under “Spells.” Delete all of that and instead, under Basic Information list them in the “Additional Specific Spells” field. [SAVE CHANGES], wait 20 minutes and check it again. If it still isn’t right, move the character’s level up and down, wait another 10 minutes and it’ll be right.
Intrigued by the lag time and how that works. But thanks again. I got it working at one point and then it all changed and I couldn't get it back. Such a shame, I feel like it's quite clunky but equally I just need to learn more.
Don’t sweat the 1s. (Anyone who has ever played in the same campaign as me can tell you that if I didn’t roll 1s, I wouldn’t roll anything half the time. 😂😂)
If you run into anymore jams, just post. But do it in the “Homebrew & Houserules” forum instead. That’s more the place for stuff like this as it isn’t a bug to report, just an ask for some help with that cobbled together infernal claptrap contraption.
Currently DDB is “Powered by Fandom,” but originally it was started by a company called Curse LLC. When Curse decided to move forward with Bradfords idea to found DDB and entered into negotiations with WotC they were already a couple years behind other sites like Roll20. Since there was such a time crunch they decided to outsource some of the work. There were two contractors bidding for the job, Stonegarten Construction out of Ironspur, and Ichorear Excavation and Fabricating, LLC.
The sales rep from Stonegarten, Helja Frostbeardsdaughter, was super professional and clearly knew all the ins & outs firsthand. She laid out a fantastic plan for the system… but unfortunately the timeline was much longer than DDB had expected, and the estimate was a little steep.
The Ichorear rep, a scrawny little fella named Vradrogg something or other… never did get a card from that guy… impressive ear notches though. Anyway, he gave Curse a fantastic pitch, promised to have the whole project done at least 30 days ahead of schedule, and undercut Stonegarten’s bid by more than 50%. Needless to say Curse went with the Ichorear.
Turns out though that Ichorear subcontracts out to Kobold work crews. That’s not necessarily bad, they sure can certainly put in work, and their crew bosses are very inventive. And they do guarantee lifetime maintenance. That’s an easy guarantee for them though, since they just never leave. (When I’m brewing late at night, when it’s quiet, I swear I can hear them scratching around in there.) However, kobolds don’t always dig in a straight line without an attentive project supervisor, and apparently Ichorear policy is to not “micromanage” their work crews. So the whole thing got a little… convoluted. (To say the least.)
On top of that, Ichorear also accepts bids for architectural and engineering positions on a per-job basis. For this project I think lowest bidder was someone named Lim, no wait… Lum that was his name. Lum. Well… his plans for the machine were a bit “avant-garde,” some might say “eccentric.” I heard tell he was mad all the time. He was excitable to be sure, but he never seemed that angry to me. 🤷♂️
At first the system seemed pretty good. It had its quirks, but it held up to inspection. There were a few shortcomings, but Vradrogg made assurances that he had “top men” on it. After about a year though it was clear things weren’t improving as needed. But Vradrogg was in the wind and nobody could get a hold of anyone at Ichorear. Turns out it was a subsidiary of a holding company or something. You know how that goes.
That was about when DDB brought in a team of specialists from Mechanus. I have never seen anything that efficient before. They marched in there like fixing stuff, putting order to chaos was their only purpose in life. For the next week, week and a half I started seeing these interesting new bits of construction popping up randomly in there. The parts were super precise, musta been CAD programmed and plasma cut. But the construction was definitively janky, it didn’t match the parts. I was examining one once, trying to figure out what it was for, and I swear it blinked. *shudders* That team of specialists never did come back out….
One thing kept nagging at me though. Despite all of that cost & corner cutting that Ichorear did, I still couldn’t figure out how they got the job done so fast, so cheap. So I started asking questions of people I won’t admit to knowing, in places I won’t admit to ever visiting, and I found something out. Apparently Ichorear had received some outside financial backing on the project that Curse never knew about. Some heavy investors from the lower planes had apparently taken interest when they heard of Curse’s plan to start DDB. One morning I received an email from an anonymous source that told me to go look in a special place right in the heart of the ’brewer. So I did. What I saw there I will never forget.
*looks over shoulders, continues speaking in a hushed whisper*
The entire system is powered by a really strange device. It’s a cube about the size of a tissue box, made of what looks like brass, and intricately etched with esoteric designs. Looked like this:
I’m not sure how long I stood there looking into that thing, coulda been hours, felt like both minutes and years at the same time. After what I can only say must have been a looonng time I suddenly got the disturbing impression that someone, or something, was stairing out of it right back at me…. I’m not ashamed to admit that I got the heck outta there faster than a Tabaxi Monk on a hot tin roof. I swore I would never go back to that part of the ’brewer again. But every once in a while, I’ll be working on a project and the next thing I know I startle-to, and find myself standing right back in front of the cube again. Always with no idea how long it’s been or how I got there. Last time… last time I lost almost three whole days.
Stay out of the heart of the homebrewer. And if you ever accidentally happen to find yourself there, run. And for your own sake, whatever you do, don’t look at the cube.
