According to the class features of Arcane Trickster:
Cantrips
You learn three cantrips: mage hand and two other cantrips of your choice from the wizard spell list. You learn another wizard cantrip of your choice at 10th level.
It specifically says you learn mage hand. Other classes or races that tell you that you learn something specific automatically adds the spell and I would assume this one should too or it would potentially allow me to pick a third cantrip if I wanted too and get mage hand from somewhere else, allowing me +3 cantrips at level 3. I assume this is a bug. it also doesn't enforce you to only pick enchantment or illusion spells for the wizards spells of level 1 and up which might be more something to do with coding but if you and/or your DM misses this as it's written "The Spells Known column of the Arcane Trickster Spellcasting table shows when you learn more wizard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be an enchantment or illusion spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. " and you might end up doing stuff you shouldn't be allowed to or start building a persona around spells you actually can't cast and it would suck to retcon it.
Hunh. I could have sworn I’ve built an arcane trickster before and that mage hand was added automatically, but you are right, it is not being added automatically.
in terms of the enchant and illusion restriction, staff before have said it isn’t enforced because they don’t have a way to enforce it for some of the spells chosen and not others (since 1 spell at lève 3 can be outside those lists, and other spells occasionally can be). But yeah, it’s annoyingly. At the very least it would be helpful to filter spells by school in the character sheet and the builder.
Much like ArwensDaughter, I also could have sworn that Mage Hand was automatically added - I've passed this to the Game Content team for further review. Thanks for the heads up!
I’m now having the opposite problem, my dndbeyond character page will only list spells in the two schools, I can’t add a spell from outside that list, even thou you can pick them raw
You mean the two schools Enchantment and Illusion, that are level 1 and higher? I don't have this issue, i've just checked. This is from both the character builder and the character sheet.
