I was making a homebrew race and subrace and finished it last night. But when I went to look at them today the subrace was attached to an older version of the main one, and also was missing all of its racial traits when I clicked on the details page or created another version to edit it. But the racial traits are still there if I just look at it in my homebrew creations without clicking anything.
Anyone know whats happening here and hopefully how I can fix it??
Had you published the homebrew? For content still being worked on and content that you are just creating for yourself you do not need to publish (in fact I strongly recommend to everyone not to publish - especially if you are new to homebrewing on the site). Once you publish homebrew it locks that version in.
For races/subraces, if you create a new version (which leaves the previous version there for other users to add), it dissociates any subrace/variant you have added - those need to be recreated from scratch.
Yes I published it to get some feedback from friends on it, unfortunately I did learn this from the process which is why I now understand why the subrace is attatched to a previous version, but tyty much appreciated as I am in fact very new to this.
the thing I’m still confused about is the fact the Subrace racial traits disappeared. I can always copy and paste everything I’ve already written in it to a version for the newest update of the race. However I cannot find the Subraces racial traits. whenever I create a new version or even just look at it from the details page they disappear. For one of them the trait was something I wrote a lot of important balance things into so it’s hard to recreate from memory, which is why I’m hoping to figure out why I can’t see the racial traits.
Also here are the links to both the subrace and the more recent version of the race. for me when I click it it has the subrace with a section for the racial traits, but non of the racial traits below it.
The Variant (Aquatic Jellicent ) is still associated to the first version (I can see you also now have 5 versions of this race - all published - Can I please recommend you stop publishing. Do not publish, you are making it harder to edit and fix the race/variant).
You've not setup the original variant (again attached to the first version, not the 5th/current version) correctly - you used Additional traits, not Granted. The traits don't display on the main subrace/variant page because they have been added as ones to add through the Customize Your Origin (as Additional options), not automatically granted as a racial trait.
I've extracted the trait details below - as I said yesterday, you will need to create a new version of the main race (in order to associate a new subrace/variant). Again do not publish. Then you'll need to add a new sub race/variant to the new race version - this way you'll have the up to date race and be able to add the subrace/variant.
Wet to the touch. If you are out of water you must regularly drench yourself with water and or cover yourself, for protection from the sun. Modifier: Damage-Radiant (2d4)|Primary Stat DEX|Duration 4 hours Restriction: If you have been without water refreshment for 4 hours or more you must roll 2 d4 heat resistance saving throw, if you roll a 5 or below you must roll 1d6 for how much damage you take and must refresh yourself. If you rolled a 6 or higher you have been refreshed. If you continue to ignore your need for water for 6+ hours the amount of damage you take will be increased by 1d4 every 2 hours.
Water breathing As a Aquatic Jellicent you have gills and can breath under water.
Thank you very much, much sorry for my many rooky mistakes, and ah, strange that I couldn’t see that, tyty and I will no longer be publishing them. Is there any way I can delete or un publish the edits and current version (I have created a private version of everything I need.) now understanding what publishing does I do not plan on publishing and if there is any way to I’d like to remove them.
again thank you so much for your help may you have a wonderful day/night and dnd time.
The only time we remove something published is for when it breaks Rules (and usually only for issues with inappropriate content or Copyright content). As all the Homebrew Rules advise (and pop-up to remind/warn multiple times) you are meant to read and be aware of these prior to publishing. It states multiple times what publishing means and that it is final with no exceptions.
Thank you, and my apologies. from what I remember there was one vague pop up saying that it would be public and everyone would be able to see it. I don’t remember it stating anything about not being able to edit, un-publish, or delete it. And of course my memory could have failed me. But the point is I do hope at least for people who are new or just trying to show a group of people they couldn’t show otherwise their wips of Homebrew things (or even in general anyone creating Homebrew on ddb) that d&d and beyond adds features to Edit, delete, or/and un-publish content. As not being able to do so can definitely effect things, especially things like this where I simply wasn’t sure what was going on and was inexperienced with the functions and ways of what publishing meant. Again, thank you for your time and apologies for the mistakes.
may you have a lovely day/night.

Post the links to your race and the subrace in question so a mod/staffer can take a look (do NOT publish them, staff can view them fine.)
