So, I've noticed that you can't create a homebrew item that gives you access to a spell like fireball or lightningbolt (at any level) because the spells are already being used by the staff of the magi.
If you build up a homebrew item based on an already established magic item, it won't show the spells and such that you can cast from it in a list (the way a staff of power/magi and such show them).
Is there a fix for this? or is this a standard bug/feature? I'm allowing combined magic items in my world and it's a bit hard to create such items through the homebrew creator.
I’m not entirely sure what exactly you mean because you can attach any spell to any homebrewed item.
What I can tell you is that if you have more than 1 item that both grant the same spell there is a bug that prevents one of them from adding the spell to the character’s list. Is that what you are referring to? If not you will have to explain your issue in greater detail.
That's exactly what I mean, if you already have an item that gives the spell "haste" to a character's list you can't create another item in the homebrew creator that gives let's say the "haste" and "Slow" spell, because only "slow" will show up in the character's spell list/ on the item as a spell to be cast with charges for example. "Haste" won't be visible in this case.
You also can't make a "staff of the magi" and a "staff of the magi king" if the latter gives the same spells to a character because the previous item already has those spells listed on it. The second item won't show the spells on it's own charge list/ the character's spell list.
The bug has nothing to do with making the items, you can make them and they work perfectly fine as long as the character doesn’t have another item that grants the same spells. The bug is not in the content builder (aka “homebrewer”), but with the way things display on the character sheet itself.

Understood, that's what was causing it indeed. Thanks for the heads up! I appreciate it!
