Just about to level up my Bloodhunter to 11 and noticed "Brand of Sundering" no longer requires a brand to be active on a creature to gain extra rite damage?
Previously it stated-
Beginning at 11th level, your Brand of Castigation now exposes a fragment of your foe’s essence, leaving them vulnerable to your Crimson Rite.
Whenever you damage a branded creature with your Crimson Rite, your weapon deals one additional hemocraft die of rite damage.
In addition, the branded creature can’t move through creatures or objects."
Now it states -
"Starting at 11th level, your Brand of Castigation exposes a fragment of your foe’s essence, leaving them vulnerable to your Crimson Rite feature.
Whenever you hit a creature with a weapon for which you have an active crimson rite, you roll an additional hemocraft die when determining the extra damage from the rite.
Additionally, if a branded creature has the Incorporeal Movement trait or a similar feature, it can’t move through creatures or objects while branded."
Is this intended to allow Ghostslayer's to always roll an extra rite die. RAW it reads as such with this change?
There is no longer a requirement to have a brand active to deal extra damage, just that you must have crimson rite.
I'd assume its intended. They recently reworked the blood hunter with the release of the Taldori Reborn book published by critical role's in house publishing company.
It is important to note that the Blood Hunter as a whole is considered to be Homebrew content made by Matt Mercer and is only on dndbeyond the way it is due in large part to the continued agreement between critical role and DndBeyond, so it may not be balanced to the same degree that an official class/subclass might be (Though I'm sure there are many people who would argue that those aren't often balanced either.)
