I've had a few occassions now where i"ll make a new character and the sheet will calculate my maximum hp to be around 14 even though my hit dice is only a D8 and my constitution is a 10 (so +0 on modifier). these are level 1 characters. am I missing something about how HP is calculated at level 1? Cause i thought it was max number on Hit Dice + Con Mod
Go to HOME | Preferences, then change your Hit Point Type from what it is now (Fixed or Manual) and then back to where it was, and it'll have the correct starting HP.

It's because when you select Manual HP before picking a class, it doesn't know what hit die to use, so you start with 12 since d12 is the largest class hit die (Barbarian.) Leaving the HP as Fixed until after you pick your class will make sure it's the right starting max HP.

The HP settings should not be on the screen before class selection if this is how it works, or the class selection should change the starting HP once selected.

yea i fix it myself each time, but i was wondering why it does that and how to prevent it in the future.

Ok that makes sense. Thank you.
This problem is still an issue. There must be a better way of doing it.
There is, choose your class first, then adjust your HP settings.
