If a feat has actions tied to character levels, then higher level actions do not become available automatically as the character levels up.
As an example I'm trying to create a feat to make the summon beast a bit easier for a less experienced player, so have created a feat that adds an attack action for each level they can cast the spell at (since the damage is spell level dependent), but set the actions to only appear at levels where the character will be able to cast it that high (so the 2nd-level action is set to 3rd-level, 3rd-level at 5th-level and so-on).
When I add this feat to a 3rd-level character the 2nd-level action appears as expected. But when I level up to 5th-level the 3rd-level action does not appear; I have to remove and re-add the feat to force it to appear. If I then drop the character's level back to 3rd, the 3rd-level action does not disappear (I have to remove and re-add it again).
It seems like the level might only be getting checked when the feat is added, so to add the new actions the player has to remove and re-add the feat each time, which is especially annoying, because this also means it needs to be kept in a homebrew collection, or re-added when the character reaches an appropriate level.
Simplest fix would presumably be for the character builder/sheet to check feat actions when the character's level changes, either removing any that are no longer valid (character level too low) or adding new ones for an increased level.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.

Feats often get “stuck” like that and the only way to wake them up is to remove and readd them.
