As the title states, i just purchased the Lost Mines of Phandelver. I am currently doing a physical play through with some work mates. Saw this DnDBeyond advertised on Geek & Sundry and thought id try and use this for my character sheet in stead of Pencil and Paper!
However, i cant for the life of me workout how to create a new character using one of the pre-designed Phandelvercharacters.
Is this even possible? I thought i read in the store for the Campaign that it contained the character sheets?
The pre-generated characters are not available on DDB (there has been some mention that it will get added later). But you do have access to all the races and classes that the pre-made characters needed (and then some), so you can copy one or make your own.
PDF versions of the Pregens are available here. Instructions for building them on DnDBeyond are in this thread, beginnng with post 11. Badeye (project lead) has recently said that eventually there will be a way for DDB to prebuild these characters and let users copy them. But that is likely quite a while in the future.
Yes; you can level up here, and choose the options listed on the pre-gen sheets, or, with your DM's permission, you can make other choices. The LMOP pre-gens are, to the best of my knowledge, built using only the options that are part of the Basic rules, which are free, both as a pdf from Wizards of the Coast, and here on DDB. Other options (from the Player's Handbook, Volo's, Xanathar's and the like) are available for purchase, either as whole "books" or individual elements.
As an aside, because it sometimes trips people up, all the character options in the Basic Rules and in another pdf called the System Reference Document (aka SRD, which here is folded into the Basic Rules) are also in the Player's Handbook, but there are lots of options in the Player's Handbook that are not in the Basic Rules or SRD.
One more aside: if perchance you are playing the rogue, and using the pre-gen back story, make sure to have a conversation with your DM about your back story and it's implications. The adventure is really well done, but one oversight was not giving the heads up to the DM that such a conversation is necessary. (Actually, it's helpful if the DM reads and ponders ALL the backstories)

Thanks for that! Plus i have the Android App 'Complete Reference for DnD 5', which is just an encyclopedia of info and other premium player/DM stuff that i don't need.
Also, i am playing as the rogue so, thanks for the heads up! il speak with my DM at work tomorrow and make sure he is aware! I did wonder if the backstory was going to come in to play!
How are you supposed do edit elements on the sheet (like your level)? Do you just copy the character down onto another sheet? Or am I just confused?
You mean on the digital character sheets here, or on paper sheets?
if you mean here, tap the anvil icon on the far right near the top of the sheet OR the manage button just to the right of your character portrait and name and choose “manage character & levels
then, on the class tab, increase the level of your character.
if you mean the paper sheets, just adjust/add things as necessary on the sheet.
Also, one of the Fighters, I think it is Fighter 2, should really ensure the DM knows that backstory and how it relates to events in Thundertree that will likely transpire. Great setup for that character’s backstory to tie in with potential future longer running campaign that my player is already running with.
We are just about done with the adventure - and now ready for more… guess we will have to wing it as to what happens with that character and Thundertree, but he has big plans! Maybe next summer’s Phandelver campaign will remember that nugget.
Note that as of just a few days ago, there is a "premade" option in the character builder: 11 premade/pregenerated characters are there that one can claim. On the post-D&D Direct stream, the DDB staff indicated that all the Lost Mines pregens were there; that certainly seems to be the case looking at the list and comparing a few of the characters.

You are welcome!
