Because they don’t give a 💩, that’s why. They’re putting all their efforts into the VTT, and want to drive as much traffic to that medium as they can because they can monetize it and they probably wish this forum would just fade away to not exist anymore.
And I'll be happy to switch to that medium, in theory, but my fear is that the new VTT will not be PBP-friendly, either.
...Like the new Maps interface. It'd be a nice new tool, except the map times out after an hour. So it's completely useless for PBP.
Will the new VTT time out, too? Will it support written descriptions? Or do they want to turn tabletop D&D into a video game?
PBP players are some of their most loyal customers. Why would they choose to not support this community? There are lots of us and we give them lots of money!
Nono, I mean they can’t monetize PbP, so they don’t care about it at all. If it’s not going to bring in active revenue they can’t be bothered to spend resources on it. Don’t expect any active support for PbP from WotC ever again.
I'm not sure I agree. Why is PBP any less monetizable than live play? We buy all the same stuff, and then some. In fact, you could argue we're more reliant on digital tools than a table game. I buy all the same books and subscriptions, and I could probably even be convinced to shell out even more (sigh) for a PBP-friendly VTT integrated with their tools.
Is it something about the written and visual record of a PBP game? Are they concerned about copyright? Or liability in some way? I don't know - I don't get it.
Or is it a purist thing? Do they feel that we're not playing the game "right"?
What really infuriates me is that D&DB repeatedly promises to address the broken forum tools, but then leaves the tools broken. Who does that?
Because for a PbP they can’t sell us fancy dice skins, or fancy custom skins and stuff for a VTT since if we’re playing PbP we don’t actually need a VTT at all. That’s why.
Why won't D&D Beyond fix the forum dice roller? We've been complaining, literally, for years!
Does D&DB even monitor this Bugs & Support thread anymore? Do they care?
I feel like the PBP community is being intentionally left out to dry. But why? We're some of their best customers!
Below: ye olde "Dice rolls not yet available for this section" bug.
