Hi, I'm posting this again because It's been at least a year since I posted this and have yet to receive a response:
I'm creating a protector aasimar light domain cleric, and the light cantrip is showing up twice under spells known. Once for being an aasimar, and the second for being a light domain cleric. For some reason it is not registering that my character already knows it due to their racial feature (Under the class feature it says: "When you choose this domain at 1st level, you gain the light cantrip if you don’t already know it. This cantrip doesn’t count against the number of cleric cantrips you know.")
It also gives me the option to learn it as a prepared spell, so potentially I would have the light cantrip show up three times under known spells. Is this a bug?
If you can't replace the light cantrip with something else if you already knew it, then it's technically a bug, but not one really worth worrying about.
If anything, it's a slight advantage to have it this way, as the save DC for the cleric-based version of the spell is probably higher.
It's not a bug. Neither the 'Light Bearer' Aasimar trait nor the 'Bonus Cantrip' Light Domain feature state you can choose a different spell if you already know it - just that you get it.
You will have 1 version that uses Charisma as the spellcasting ability, from Aasimar, and one that uses Wisdom, from Cleric.
