Hi all, I know this is an old thread but I'm having a similar issue.
I've created a cantrip and a 1st-level spell with a similar theme, and have tagged the spells for bards, clerics, and wizards. My party's wizard is able to add both, but the cleric can only seem to add the Cantrip. The 1st level spell isn't showing up as an option. I've tried editing the spell in several different ways.
From your character's sheet, click on the character name to get the dropdown, choose "Preferences" near the bottom. A new sidebar will appear, and the Homebrew toggle will be at the top.
Incredibly frustrating — I can't seem to get it to show up either. I turned homebrew off and on and disabled and and reenabled content sharing as well.
Homebrew is not connected to content sharing, so that’s a nonissue. When you want your Homebrew available for a character sheet, the toggle under Home needs to be on (red, to the right).
In addition, only Homebrew in your “Collection” will be available for use. If it is in your “Creations” but not your “Collection” it will remain hidden.
Having this same issue. I actually began by purchasing the Wildemont handbook and the Players Handbook. Can't find spells that I know are in the hard copies I'm holding. Then, created them in my homebrew collection. Can't find them on my character's spell list.
To access Wildemount spells, Critical Role content must be turned on (red) on the home page of the builder. Similarly, to access homebrew, homebrew content must be turned on.
if it says you need to sync, click the sync button. While on that page, s roll down to “current product license” and make sure you didn’t inadvertently purchase the compendium only option, which doesn’t give access to content on the character builder.
if none of that works, please post a link to one or more affected characters, and give some examples of spells you haven’t been able to add.
Thanks for the reply. I ended up starting the character over from scratch and it all populated! Wasn't aware the sync button you mentioned. I'm sure that was it.
I created a homebrew class and 2 homebrew spells for this it says both spells are added to the class but the spells aren't showing up at all maybe I did something wrong but idk I've edited the spells and subclass multiple times and added and subtracted things to the spells and class thinking it was the problem but they still seem to now show up on my subclasses spell list
It's 2024 and this is still happening to me. I've tried all the solutions presented here and nothing is working. I want to be able to add my homebrew spells to my player's characters but when I search them up they don't appear. Extremely frustrating. Has anyone found a more recent solution?
Update for this: solved! I went into the details of the spell and realized I didn't have the character's class under Basic Information > Available for Classes, so I added it and then it started showing up. If anyone else is struggling with other stuff I'd recommend checking their post out- I know I definitely will lol
I have this same issue too! I'm trying to add a homebrew spell to one of my player's character and it's just not working
The "homebrew content" is turned on, the spell is in my "homebrew collections", and the spell has his character's class selected, but the spell still won't show up on the list for me to add. Can someone please help me?
I’m using the site! Both the level of the spell and the level of the character are 3!
I’ve tried refreshing it already and it still didn’t work :(
I’m not quite sure what to do.
To get level 3 spells the character needs to be a level 5 spellcaster. As a level 3 spellcaster the highest spell they will access is 2nd level. So that might be your issue.

Please try the following:
How do you turn homebrew off and on again? I'm not seeing it anywhere.
From your character's sheet, click on the character name to get the dropdown, choose "Preferences" near the bottom. A new sidebar will appear, and the Homebrew toggle will be at the top.
So I did that same thing for one of my players characters and they still can’t see the homebrew spell I added.
I cant seem to add my spell as well.

This is an issue for me as well I can't add homebrew, or Strixhaven spells even though they are added and enabled.

Try refreshing the character sheet. By the way: are you using the app or the site? And what level is the spell, and what level is the character?
