I'm trying to add a homebrew race, but I'm struggling with the ASI function.
Normally if you pick a 2024 background, the ASI feature on the race is removed.
I tried creating the race from an existing one, and while the ASI feature works with the 2014 backgrounds, when you choose a 2024 Background, Beyond gives you the ASI from the race and the ASI from the background instead of having the background replacing the race's.
Is there something special I need to do when creating the race to avoid this?
This specific race has 2 ASI showing because its a subrace. base gives +2 wis. the subrace gives +1 int. But as you can see, the Entertainer Background is still providing its +2 str and +1 dex. Beyond is recognizing those traits are providing an ASI, but its not blocking them like it normally does.
The 2024 Backgrounds do not auto-give ASI, they provide a selection. The +2 STR and +1 DEX is only applying because you chose them when adding the background. The solution is therefore easy: don't make choices and leave it blank.
You're combining two rulesets, there will be inconsistencies in the tool, and it is the responsibility of the player to ensure they are selecting things correctly.

One of my players is also having this issue, and they AREN'T Mixing the rules. It is a homebrew race made using a 2024 race as the template. Literally made it myself copying the 2024 Elf, I just wanted to add a 4th option to its lineage drop down choices cause my homebrew world. He has a 2024 Background and it is doing the same thing. I even had him swap off the homebrew race to a default 2024 race and it is persisting

OP's issue and yours are different. Their issue is mixing rulesets and being confused about how D&D Beyond implements that. Yours is something else.
I made a copy of elf, added an additional lineage option and selected a 2024 background (I chose Sage). Everything worked perfectly correct. The code isn't going to be different for me than it is for you, so can you please provide the following details:
- What options did you add/change for the homebrew Elf, and are you certain you copied 2024 Elf not a 2014 Elf - can you show a screenshot?
- What background did they choose? Are they certain they chose an official 2024 Background and not a 2014 one or homebrew?
- If you make a new character with homebrew disabled and choose Elf and the same 2024 background, does the issue persist?
- Can you show a screenshot of the background and abilities tab, to show the error?

- The Lineages and Lineage Spellcasting where the only changes. There was an option added. - Background they were/are using the 2024 Guard Background - It did not persist if I disable homebrew, and select the 2024 Elf with the same background. Happened again if I enabled homebrew picked the homebrew Elf
ALSO I figured out what it is/how to fix it. When you copy the 2024 races, they still have the "Ability Score Increase" option incase you pick a 2014 background. When you copy one of them it doesn't have whatever code/flag they use for it auto Hide/Show that option depending on the background. So it just always displays the option, even if you don't assign a display order to. BUT if you don't want the option to show up, you either have Delete the Option OR do not assign it a Display Number AND Check that "Hide in Builder" "Hide in Sheet" and "Hide on Details Page" are all filled in so it doesn't show up.
Sadly also means that if they are wanting to use s 2014 Background with your Homebrew 2024 Race, you will have to unhide them all manually on the Race itself. Kind of a pain in the butt, So I am just gonna have to make 2 versions of the race, and tell my party if they want to use 2014 Background to pick the one with the (2014) Tag and NOT the (2024) Tags I put in the names for which ruleset. Lol
But rather than making 2 versions you can just delete the ASI from the race.
If you select a 2024 Background, you get the Background ASI as normal. If you select a 2014 Background then the ASI Failsafe kicks in.
The failsafe is if your race lacks an ASI and your background lacks an ASI then the Abilities tab will feature a failsafe: a Tasha-style ASI choice (+2/+1 or +1/+1/+1 to scores of choice).
