The new animations on the homescreen cause motion sickness for me, and I'm looking for some way to disable them. I went into Firefox's "about:config" settings and added a value of "true" for "ui.prefersReducedMotion". This had no effect on the homescreen animations.
These new homescreen animations are an accessibility issue for people who are sensitive to motion sickness like me. I see 3 potential fixes:
Add an Account setting to disable animations/motions (including the homescreen animations)
Update the homescreen animations to respect the accessibility settings of users (such as "ui.prefersReducedMotion" disabling them)
Remove these new and obnoxious homescreen animations entirely
I've also tried this on Google Chrome with the Developer Rendering tools, setting "prefers-reduced-motion" to "reduce". It has had no effect on the homescreen animations, which should absolutely be affected by this setting.
This continues to be an issue. I've now tried setting my MacOS settings to enable "Reduce motion", which also had no effect on the homescreen animations.
The homescreen animations are seriously motion-sickness inducing. Please let us turn them off. This is an accessibility issue.
The only animation I see is the background of the top section which slowly goes through a few images with a slow zoom. If this is causing you issues then every video of any kind of movement would cause you issue as would any form of physical movement you do. This is a level of extreme that is not reasonable for a website to adhere to.
It's also only the homepage with this and the page itself offers no benefit for returning users. You can just bookmark a more common page like My Characters or whatever page you frequently use (I use Forums because I'm on here a lot, if ya can't tell by my post count 🤣 [I have no life 😭]).Then whenever you want to go to D&D Beyond just use the bookmark. Problem solved. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
