Custom background doesn't support features that give feats

The title says it all, I wanted to give my character who grew up in a colosseum built from giant ruins a modified version of the giant foundling background that was based on the gladiator background, but it didn't give me the feat, and after a quick test with the Strixhaven backgrounds, it doesn't seem to be a glory of the giants thing, but rather a thing with all backgrounds that give feats having their feature used for a custom background.

This has been passed along to the team.

In the interim, you can manually add feats to any character at first level using the feat manager menu on the character sheet

Any update on this? We've recently gotten Book of Many Things which added more backgrounds with feats and this still bug is still present.

Same here, the bug still exists. When creating a custom background, even though under Configuration we can select which Origin's background feature we would like to chose, it is not added to the character sheet.

The custom background option is 2014 ruleset which generally didn't allow choosing feats, as it was intended to align with the custom background rules in the 2014 PHB. The PHB and the custom background option based on that PHB were made when background feats were not a thing. It's not a bug, just an outdated feature because a superior option - the Background creator tool - was implemented which serves the same purpose and works correctly.

If you need a background not listed, make it using the Homebrew Background tool. This works correctly aside from 1 issue: 2024 starting ASI, but then you can leave it blank and the builder will give the player the ASI anyway under Abilities tab. 

I seriously doubt they'll be changing the defunct "custom background" option, given you can achieve what you want with the Background creation tool specifically designed for that.

The problem is the 2024 rules in the new DMG provides the rules for custom backgrounds. So for 2 years the character generation software remains defective and does not facilitate the rules for the 2024 rules. It is more than annoying that something this basic is being ignored because the character generation software allows one to select a custom backgrounds and even allow partial configuration but remains half assed and leaves out the most critical parts.  Why?

 It's certainly not conspiracy or sloth.

The site was initially coded by Curse in a way that did not anticipate official support to this magnitude. Fandom similarly didn't improve on it to the degree needed pre-sale.

The difficulty to work in is quite LITERALLY baked into the code, layer after layer.

Anyone, with the right tools, can take a look under the hood & see how messed up this site is, programming-wise.

It doesn't follow any logical template of coding, with strands all over the place.
