I'm a noob here on D&D Beyond, cracking into the world of DMing for the first time. I'd like to use D&D Beyond to help my party manage their characters, we're using pretty basic stuff, but some of the options don't seem to be available in the character creator.
Example: I have someone who wants to use the "Criminal/Spy" background, whose skill proficiencies are Deception and Stealth, but neither of those options are available in the drop down lists to select the two skill proficiencies. Additionally, the background has a tool proficiency in Thieves' Tools, but it isn't one of the options.
There's a prompt that says if the options I want aren't listed below, then I can purchase them from the marketplace, but I can't figure out how to unlock these options.
Additionally, if I purchase these options, are they available for my entire party or do we all have to buy them?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Update: I purchased the Hero Subscription and still don't see these options.
Don't jump the gun on purchasing. A subscription does not unlock content (it will let you add public homebrew to your collection to use though).
If you don't see a skill or tool in a drop down, it is probably because you already have that proficiency somewhere else. I'm guessing the character in question is a rogue (based off the missing tools)?
You can purchase books or just player options from books in the marketplace (subscriptions do not give you books).
Books you purchase are initially just for you, but anyone in a campaign with a master subscription can enable content sharing for everyone in the campaign.
And for future reference there is a buyer's guide in general discussion and a FAQ in bugs and support.
Link to the buyers guide is in my signature, if you haven’t found it already. I think DxJxC has answered your questions pretty completely, but if anything’s unclear or you have more questions, please post back.
I'll definitely use the subscription, so though it didn't do what I was hoping it would, it'll still get use, so that's good.
So, and this is something I may have learned later in character creation and DMing, but if a character already has the two proficiencies that an acolyte awards from their class or race, like in this situation the player already has Deception, Stealth and Thieves' Tools from Rogue stuff, do they select different proficiencies to fulfill the skill proficiencies awarded by the acolyte, or have they just already ticked those boxes and get additional buffs on those skills because the acolyte makes them proficient in it?

That makes sense!

Thanks!
They choose new proficiencies from background (that is why the drop downs appear).
