Hello, I'm new to this site and I tried to build my charcter , but some of the options I should have are not there. For example as a Variant Human I could only choose one feat (Firearm expert or something similar) and I couldn't choose any other feat. Also I could choose only one Ranger Archetype (Hunter) and not any of the others, not even Beast Master.

Those are the free options. Other feats and subclasses (races, backgrounds, spells, etc) can be found in purchasable books. The PHB is a good starting place.

I am having a similar issue (using firefox and chrome).  I can't pick any feats, can only pick the fiend as a warlock patron, and only have about 6 background to choose from.

You get what is in Basic Rules free (and EEPC). Everything else you need to pay for or have shared with you.
