I created a level 3 human barbarian, unassigned to any campaign, to print the character sheet for our campaign.
Now I tried to level him up to level 8, I wanted to take a feat instead of a ability score improve, but the only feat I am able to assign is the feat "Grappler". I know there are several feats which my barbarian meats the prerequesites (like Lucky for example) and I cant think of any reason why my human barbarian is not allowed to take any feats. I tried to alter the adjustments like allowing homebrew etc, even assigning him to a campaign, but none of that worked. I even tried making him a human variant to take a lvl 1 feat, but there is only grappler (and 3 other feats which are part of advanced ruleset like critical role etc.) to take, no other feats.
The rest of the feats are not free. To use them you will need to buy them from the marketplace (most can be found in the PHB). You can buy the book containing them, the Feats bundle or the individual feat. Buying the bundle or individual feat will discount off the cost of the full book.
If you have a physical copy of the book or own it legally in digital form elsewhere then you can use the homebrew tools to create the feats you want - you cannot publish them, but you can use them for personal use without issue and they will be shared with other people in your campaign if you're in a campaign on D&D Beyond.
Speaking of Campaigns, if you're on a campaign on here and somebody has the feat purchased it can be shared if somebody has a Master Tier Subscription and turns content sharing on. This would allow purchased content to be shared with each other.

You also have the option of "doing the work" youself and homebrewing feats for your use. If you own just the compendium content here or the physical books and don't wish to purchase anything else. It'll take more time and effort but its an option.

is this a bug or what am I missing?

Thanks for reply, I figured as much as owning at least the corebook is neccessery although I can implement items e.g. for my char.
