I was gonna pick up "Booming Blade" through the "Spell Sniper" feat but seem to be unable to add i from the list of spells. My understanding is that this is possible or am I missing something here? I should own all the sources to be able to, "Green Flame Blade" should work as well.
Booming Blade and Green Flame Blade fall into a grey area of spells when it comes to certain feats and features. The spell sniper feat specifies that the spell must require an attack roll. Technically speaking, these two spells don’t directly involve a (spell) attack roll. Instead, they require you to take the attack action as part of the spell. Yes, such actions usually involve attack rolls, but those attack rolls are made with the modifiers related to the weapon used/weapon proficiency, not your spell casting ability. So my guess is they don’t qualify.
I did try it again and now I could actually pick Booming Blade/Green Flame Blade, so it´s been solved. I understand your reasoning and yes it really is some kind of grey area with those two spells. Still it´s making sense that you should be able to use them, based on "One cantrip that requiers an attack roll" in the Description of the Spell Sniper feat. I´m guessing since you cast it as a spell it overlooks how the attack roll is done in this case.
Either way it opens up a lot of fun ways to play/use those spells. So I like that you can pick them with that feat. Also thanks for replying on my question, appreciate it!
