So i've been working on a subclass of the sorcerer and one of the features is supposed to give a character of this subclass a +1 bonus to ranged spell attacks at level 1 this does not work for me at all, the same class feature also grants them proficiency in perception this did work when I made a test character, but once a character reaches level 5 they receive a +2 bonus to ranged spell attacks and a +1 bonus to perception checks neither of these functions work. My best guess is that this is a problem with the "bonus" part of adding a modifier. If this is a problem on my end let me know it would make my life so much better, i've already thought of a solution for the player to just manually add in all the different bonuses as they level up but I'd really like to avoid this considering how tedious and time consuming it would be.
Try re-saving the entire subclass using the main [SAVE CHANGES] button located under Basic Information. If you don’t click/tap that, the system won’t pick up your changes. It can then take up to 20 minutes for those changes to hit the character sheets, so be patient.
I originally thought it was a load time issue as well and I save the whole subclass after I finish up a feature so I don't think that is the issue, I went to bed after I put in bonuses still no change on the character sheet so im honestly confused. I've also removed the possibility of it being an issue with the feature being granted, additional, or replacement cause I've tried it with each?
Also another note is that this worked with not only granting a proficiency in perception but also for doubling the spell range of ranged spell attacks, which is another bonus modifier genuinely I am dumbfounded is there maybe a trick to granting bonus modifiers as flat +1 or +2 bonuses?
All of those features must be listed as “Granted.” The “Replacement,” and “additional” feature types are for the kinds of Optional Class Features found in Tasha’s Cauldron. (I really wish they would do a better job of explaining that. 🙄 It would refuse some of of the recent issues people have with them.) Always make them as “Granted,” that’s really the default.
I just tested the modifier to ad a +2 bonus to a Skill, it worked like a charm:
Modifier: Bonus->Subtype: [Skill]->Fixed Value: X
Make sure that you didn’t accidentally do it some other way. Then, re-save the modifier, re-save the class feature, and again re-save the entire subclass.
Modifier: Bonus-Subtype: Ranged Spell Attacks->Fixed Value: X
That modifier does not appear to function when attached to a class feature. That modifier was created for Magic Items, and as such might only function when attached to Magic Items.
Just because a Modifier Subtype is listed, doesn’t mean it will necessarily work on that type of homebrew. It really isn’t a “homebrewery,” it is the same system the Devs use, just we don’t get Admin privileges. They know what works and what doesn’t, and the system was designed for people who already know how to use it. So it really isn’t designed for our use, we’re just allowed to play with someone else’s toy.
Incidentally, when attached to a class feature, the following modifier does not seem to affect Ranged Spell Attacks either, only weapon attacks:
Modifier: Bonus-Subtype: Ranged Attacks->Fixed Value: X
Thanks for the help really appreciate you taking the time to help me out, I will just make an action for ranged spell attacks considering I was going to do this already since one of the main features of this sorcerer subclass is the ability to convert spells that deal AOE damage into single target ranged spell attacks.
