The Haunted One Background option is only available if I purchase the entire Curse of Strahd book. I have a character with this background, since it was released through the Adventures League, but I cannot use it currently because I refuse to pay $30 for a background.

I think we’re just reading the tone of the OP differently. I see it as a request to be able to access a player option without paying for a full adventure (same as with magic items in other HCs), which can be viewed as a support request. My guess is this particular thing was overlooked in the rush to launch, as CoS is the only HC with a new background for players.

There absolutely have been far too many nasty posts along those lines, so I get that, and the OP could have phrased his request a little less aggressively. I admit the lenses of my glasses may be tinted a bit because I have the same request on my mind. $2 for the background makes plenty of sense (and I say that as someone who may well buy the whole darn adventure someday, because gosh to I love CoS).
Oh, trust me... The fact that purchasing partial gives discounts on the whole is the biggest thing I'm happy about. I can save up and buy at once or pay a little each month until I can afford to jump. It'd be nice for ALL character options be available piecemeal, but should still be under Feedback, not Bugs. Even a page listing options by category instead of book, such as "buy races, buy subclasses, etc" , would be great.

The background is listed on the Backgrounds list however the link takes you to the CoS marketplace which does not actually list the background for sale.
By the way, there's a bug - it seems to be offering two language slots when it should only allow for one. Also, the description in the builder and compendium state that you select only one skill (as it did pre-errata). But the builder does offer the two skill slots as it should.

This is actually due to the way we've got backgrounds open at the moment to allow for customization - it will be addressed with the full revamp in progress.

The exact wording via the curse of strahd book from which the background comes from says" Languages: Two of your choice, one of which is exotic (Abyssal, Celestial, Deep Speech, Draconic, Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan and Undercommon)." Whatever "bug" you think you just had them fix actually messed it up :p

Update - see there's another thread that recently received at least one moderator's input. But issue remains unresolved.
Why is the Haunted one background not free? It's readily available from the wizards website for free.
