Bard character, Variant Human, picks Magic Initiate (Bard) as their Feat, and picks a 1st level Bard spell. On the spells list, the picked Bard spell appears with a "Use" button, but no entry appears for "Cast", and there is no way to cast the spell using slots.
That is correct. You can always take the spell as a bard and use your spell slots for it, but as far as casting a leveled spell goes you can not cast it with spell slots.
"In addition, choose one 1st-level spell from that same list. You learn that spell and can cast it at its lowest level. Once you cast it, you must finish a long rest before you can cast it again using this feat."

The Sage Advice Compendium, though, says you can, as long as the class you picked for Magic Initiate matches your spellcasting class. (The example they use uses Sorcerer, but no reason why it shouldn't work the same way with Bards.)
This is intentional. I've read that they tried it before where there was a Cast button and a Use button but people complained that it bloated the character sheets so they got rid of it. If you want to cast it with a spell slot - just tick off the correct spell slot.

Damn, that's too bad. I don't mind ticking off the spell slot, but I do mind not seeing the spell under high levels, with the adjusted damage/effect.

Thanks, though.
You could always homebrew a custom feat or something to add it to your character as castable.
