eldritch cannon can do 3d8 as a BA at level 9 and 6d8 at level 15. arcane firearm is rediculas for a level 5 feature. the only other subclass that might compete is armorer, and only because of the artificer infusions on the arcane armor. please help explain and clarify if I'm reading it wrong because this is too powerful.

hello there! I have too many ideas. I love splatoon and obssess over any minmax. I'm sorry if anything I post is unkind or offends you. I'm well aware that I am very weird and I like it that way!
yeah, It's about the same rate of extra attack, but I do have a question about it, does it stack with sorcereus burst and chromatic orb if you multiclass?

No, because it only applies to Artificer spells, and those are not Artificer spells.

The rule me and my friends use for dpr is 5 times whatever level you currently are at to determine if you are doing decent damage so this isn't really absurd
Not to mention the artificer class doesn't completely focus on Dpr it's more utility than anything
Artillerist can do aoe, positioning and thp
Armorer is more defensive but it also gives you good melee and ranged options with your armorer as well as allowing you to get 18 AC without having to cast either mage armor with 20 dexterity or having 15 strength for plate
over all this class is powerful but it's not nearly as powerful as the wizard class or sorcerer class for pure damage IMO

Not sure what you mean by "it" here - you can get sorcerous burst via the All-Purpose Tool and chromatic orb via the Sage background/Magic Initiate feat, if you like, no need to multiclass. You'd still have your bonus action to activate the Eldritch Cannon.
Arcane Firearm's extra damage is just 1d8 at 5th level - and if you use it to cast an Artificer spell only. Also note, this is worded so that die does not double on a crit.
It's a good class, and versatile. It's not overpowered. I've done some careful burnishing on mine to ensure it has a good solution to being grappled or surrounded in melee with a mix of enemies and friendlies.

They were asking if the damage bonus from Arcane Firearm would apply to those spells. As I pointed out above, it would not, since they're not Artificer spells.

If learned via APT, Sorcerous Burst would be an Artificer spell. (But we are just talking about an extra 1d8.)
As "cantrips that play well with Arcane Firearm" go, it still doesn't really beat True Strike (with your choice of Repeating Shot martial ranged weapon).

What rules are you using? martials can't do this at high levels, and casters run out of high enough level slots to do this very fast.

They’re huge optimizers. They use 2014 ruleset and yeah I think they definitely can do that if they optimize well. You probably just haven’t figured out some of the cooler tricks 🤷
I really don’t think that’s all that strong but I’m not the best at balance when it comes to combat. More of a utility guy.
The easiest "baseline" to manage is the rogue's sneak attack. Its steady and dumb, and not very impressive.
Level 9 rogue does 1d6+5d6+dex for 26 points of damage Level 15 rogue does 1d6+8d6+dex for 36.5 points of damage
Level 9 artillerist is doing: Action: Firebolt 2d10+1d8 = 15.5, BA 3d8 cannon = 13.5; = 29
Level 15 artillerist is doing: Action: Firebolt 3d10+1d8 = 21, BA 6d8 cannon = 27; = 48
Level 9 is certainly in line with basic rogue. Level 15 is a bit high, but not too bad. The rogue has access to constant advantage via steady aim and no subclass is included in the comparison. In my view the only broken thing on artificer is the spell storing item, and even that isn't that bad. The artillerist is in line with other damage dealers with a bit more constriction in their action economy since their bonus action is tied up to do it.

Yes, it can. The point of the subclass is to do a lot of damage; the fact that it has an ability that deals a lot of damage seems appropriate.
No it isn't. Why do you think it is?

And not really much more damage than Fire Bolt.
